Chapter 27

Apr 30, 2025

Lucien’s POV

The rain poured harder as I approached the towering gates of the Northern Kingdom—her kingdom.

Seraphina’s kingdom.

Lightning cracked through the dark sky, thunder roaring like my wolf inside me. My cloak was soaked through. My horse was exhausted. And I hadn’t slept in nearly a day.

But none of that mattered. Not when I was this close to her. Not when I could still feel the warmth of her skin against mine, still hear her voice in my head as she said, Don’t stop me this time.

I didn’t stop her.

And now, I was paying the price.

The silver gates loomed ahead, guarded by warriors in dark armor, bearing the crest of House Drayne.

They spotted me immediately. “Halt!” one of them shouted, drawing his sword as I pulled my horse to a slow stop in the muddy path.

I raised my hands, not reaching for my weapon. “I’m not here to fight.”

The guard stepped forward, eyes hard. “Lucien Asher, by order of the Queen Alpha, you are not permitted entry into the capital.”

My heart dropped. “Please,” I said, water dripping from my hair, soaking my clothes. “I just want to speak to her.”

The guard didn’t blink. “Orders are orders. Turn back.”

“I’m not turning back,” I said, my voice low but firm.
