As time passed, Tristan continued to report about Charlie.
“I saw her at the library. She looks so serious about studying. She must be smart. Many guys look at her, but she just reads her books.”
On another occasion, while they were headed out of the campus, Tristan said, “Look, that’s her! She is with Luke Sullivan!”
Taylor remembered looking at Charlie then. She handed Luke a bottle of water and seemed genuinely concerned for him. Tristan said, “Luke is so lucky.”
“Let’s mind our own business, Tristan,” Taylor said. “She seems nice, but we don’t know her.”
Taylor had long forgotten about Tristan’s crush until the general assembly happened. Taylor put two and two together, realizing that Charlie was that girl.
He was intrigued and even more impressed to learn she was a top Business Administration student. A woman who was focused on her goals? That was something he truly admired, becuase he was that way too.
That day, Taylor also discovered Luke was the person who betrayed Charlie.
Taylor did not like Luke. To him, Luke wasn’t a sport. Sure, he played mind games with Luke, but don’t many players do? Was it his fault that Luke’s mind was so weak?
Because there was always tension between him and Luke, Taylor thought it would be interesting to help Charlie.
Charlie had been hurt and betrayed, and on top of that, she didn’t even have real friends to support her. If there was one thing he knew for sure, Luke didn’t deserve the satisfaction of thinking Charlie was alone. And if making that jerk livid was something Taylor could do for his new roommate, then, by all means, he would make it count.
And the icing on top? He could get to know Charlie more.
The kiss they shared the other day wasn’t something he had planned, but it changed everything. He didn’t just want to look out for her. He wanted to be close to her, to hold her, to kiss her again. That one moment had flipped a switch inside him, making it impossible to ignore how much he liked her.
