By the time Leo and his men arrived, Paisley was already packed and ready to leave.
When Maria saw Leo, she was briefly stunned but didn't ask any questions. After so many years by Paisley's side, she knew the rules.
If Paisley told her something, she would listen. If Paisley didn't say anything, then it meant she didn't need to know.
Serena, on the other hand, was ecstatic when she saw Leo. She waved her little hands excitedly and kept calling out, "Leo!"
No matter how urgent the situation was or how tense the vibe felt, Leo couldn't help but soften when he saw Serena. He walked over in a few steps and picked her up. "Is your body feeling better, Rena?"
Serena nodded obediently, her big, shiny eyes blinking. "Yes! I'm already discharged from the hospital!"
Leo smiled warmly. "That's good. Mr. Godard and I were really worried about you."
Serena looked around. "I don't see Godard. Didn't he come back?"
"Godard is still busy. I have to take your mom to see him." Leo kept his voice as gentle as possible so it wouldn't reveal any underlying emotions.
He felt guilty, too. Because of the Godard family's affairs, he had no choice but to involve Paisley's family.
Paisley, now dressed in loose, comfortable clothing and carrying a large backpack, walked over. "I'm ready to leave anytime."
"Alright." Leo handed Serena over to Maria and signaled with his hand.
Immediately, several men dressed in low-key yet professional attire stepped forward.
"These men will stay behind to protect Maria and Rena." As he spoke, Leo took notice of Linna, who stood behind Paisley. From her posture and movements, it was clear that she was well-trained.
"Ms. Sutton, who's..."
"Her name is Linna. She'll be staying in Harrowfell."
Leo immediately understood and looked at Linna with great respect. He didn't underestimate her just because she was a woman.
"You all, for the time being, follow Ms. Linna's instructions on everything," he said.
Linna gave a lazy smile. "Just call me Linna."
The men looked at Linna's superior attitude and felt slightly dissatisfied, but they said nothing in front of Leo.
After all, their job was to protect the two people in this villa—one adult and one child. If Linna ordered them to do anything beyond that, they wouldn't comply.
Maria felt a little intimidated by the situation, but to avoid worrying Paisley about her and Serena, she spoke in the most relaxed tone she could manage. "Paisy, don't worry about us. Focus on your work. Linna and I will take care of everything here."
"Alright." Paisley nodded.
She wasn't too concerned about Harrowfell. Lucy would ensure everything was well-provided for, and Linna was more than capable of handling security. With the added presence of Leo's men, she was confident that not even a fly could get close to Maria and Serena.
Paisley picked up Serena and planted a firm kiss on her delicate little face. "Mommy will be away for a few days. I'll bring you a gift when I get back."
"Goodbye, Mommy. I'll be good." Serena clearly didn't want Paisley to leave. Her eyes turned red, and her little mouth quivered, on the verge of tears.
Paisley felt as if a giant hand had clenched her heart. She quickly handed Serena over to Maria and turned to leave.
Ever since Serena had been hospitalized, Serena had clung to her. Paisley had promised not to neglect her again.
But plans never kept up with changes. She had only made that promise a few days ago, and now she was leaving once more.
"Let's go, quickly," Paisley said to Leo.
Leo hadn't even reacted before Paisley was already in the car.
"Wait—wait for me!" Leo hurried after her.
Sure enough, just as the car pulled out of the villa, Serena's faint cries could be heard.
