Alina glared at Danny, who was being snarky, and pinched the face that mirrored Johnny’s exactly. 

I haven’t forgotten about you, heartless kid. The moment things got messy, you hightailed it!” 

But secretly, she felt relieved that Danny had sprinted off earlier. If Johnny had seen him, he might’ve pieced together his identity. 

Genetics were undeniably powerful. She couldn’t believe her son looked so much like Johnny. It was precisely why she didn’t want to bring Danny back. 

However, Danny had no clue what Alina was talking about. He didn’t remember ditching Alina. Escorted downstairs by a few bodyguards, he would’ve been kidnapped if he hadn’t bitten someone and bolted. Otherwise, there was no way he could’ve seen Alina by now. 

Alina took Danny out of the police station, got into the car, and noticed an extra email in her inbox. 

“Hello, Night, I’m Johnny.” 

Seeing the subject line, Alina raised an eyebrow slightly. 

She opened the email and skimmed through it. The gist was that Johnny was seeking Night’s help for a medical issue, and he was willing to pay whatever it took, no matter how steep the medical expenses were. It was forwarded to Alina by her assistant, Amy. Night had been renowned for treating major illnesses and surgeries in recent years, hailed as a miracle worker, Dr. Miracle. 

Night remained incredibly mysterious, with no known contact details or even an estimated age. People only knew that she probably was a woman. 

Johnny had been searching for her for years, sending countless emails, all of which Alina had ignored. 

She remembered at the party today, Johnny seemed to be there to find Night. 

Amy called. “Alina, this Johnny is persistent. I declined again, saying you’re unavailable.” 

“Okay.” 

In that grand mansion, Johnny gazed at the soundly sleeping Laura. “Thank goodness Laura’s okay. I wouldn’t have let that woman off easy if something happened,‘ he thought. 

Then he gave Drake a stern talking–to, but Drake looked utterly confused, not catching a word Johnny said. He admitted sneaking out with his sister was wrong, but he couldn’t understand why Johnny accused him of peeing on him. He didn’t remember anything like that happening. 

After scolding the kids, Johnny noticed an extra email in the inbox, a reply from Night’s end. 

He opened it, and as expected, Night turned him down again. Word had it that if Night stepped in to save someone, even if they seemed gone, she could bring them back. 

Zelda had been unwell for a while, lucky to have Night’s help back then, and she’d been in great shape these past few years, so Johnny wanted to ask Night to help Laura and Drake. Both kids were in a tough spot. Laura never spoke and wasn’t doing well physically. Drake was dealing with some mental issues and had, a split personality. 

But even Zelda couldn’t reach Night. 

Johnny’s phone rang. It was Zelda calling.

Chapter 7 

As soon as he answered, before Johnny could get a word in, Zelda started scolding. “You rascal! Didn’t I tell you to pick up Alina from the airport today?“, 

“What?” Clearly, Johnny had forgotten. 

He’d been swamped today, with no time to spare for the airport. 

“Are you ignoring me again? Alina’s the granddaughter of an old friend from way back. Just like you, she’s got a kid. She’s a real beauty, sharp as a tack, and sweet as she can be.” 

“If she’s so sharp, why’d she have a kid without getting married?” Just mentioning that gave Johnny a headache. 

“Johnny!” Zelda was furious. “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. Unless I’m dead, I’ll never allow that Hersey woman into this family!”
