Chapter 25
The Lindberg family’s mansion was smack dab in the middle of the city, a posh and pricey area.
The place was like a neighborhood of mansion–style villas. There were a bunch of four–story buildings that were all connected and all belonged to the Lindberg family.
Just as Allison pulled up to the gate, she saw Lucian stepping out of his Bentley.
He personally opened the car door for her and said, “Penelope, sorry I couldn’t pick you up. Been swamped with work.”
“No worries.” Allison replied, a bit sheepish but relieved to see he didn’t seem affected by last night’s events.
Her fingers tightened, reminding herself that she was Penelope now, not Allison.
Next thing she knew, her clenched hand was enveloped by a warm grip. She shivered slightly, looking up at the man beside her.
Lucian was gently stroking her hand with a small smile playing on his lips. “Nervous?”
She nodded slightly.
Yeah, she was a bit jittery and afraid her secret might be exposed.
Just then, a one–eyed, muscular middle–aged man approached them. “Mr. Lindberg, Ms. Flanagan.”
Lucian introduced him, “This is David. He’s been my grandfather’s companion for a long tirne.”
David was the Lindberg family’s butler. He shared a last name with Carter Lindberg because he was his–adopted son, so he had a pretty high status in this household.
“Hello, David.” Allison greeted him respectfully. David nodded slightly, then turned to Lucian. “Lucian, Carter wants to see you in the study.”
Lucian squeezed her hand. “You make yourself at home. I’ll go see Grandpa.”
Allison nodded.
After Lucian left, David led Allison into the mansion and had a maid named Zoey take her to the garden.”
There were several four–story buildings with tight security and beautiful greenery. As Allison followed Zoey, they heard some heavy panting coming from the fruit trees ahead.
“Oh, Pete, you’re such a bad boy…”
“Can I be any worse than you, you little minx, huh?”
The conversation between the man and the woman, along with the panting, made them both uncomfortable.
Allison frowned. They couldn’t see anything in the dense grove, but the suggestive sounds made it awkward.
Zoey quickly ushered Allison away. “Ms. Flanagan, let’s go.”
Allison nodded and awkwardly diverted her gaze.
They didn’t try to hide their footsteps. It was so quiet here that Allison was sure the people in the grove could hear them.
But not only did they not quiet down, they got even louder.
