Chapter 42
The guy was wearing a black tracksuit, looking a bit skinny. He was sporting a black baseball cap with the brim pulled low, creating a relaxed and gloomy
vibe.
Allison was pushing the wheelchair, trying to avoid bumps as she slowly descended the stairs. But her strength was limited, and there was no wheelchair ramp here, just steps.
She hesitated before softly suggesting, “Your wheelchair is electric, right? Maybe try adjusting the direction…”
Before she can finish, the guy pressed a button, and the wheelchair seemed to lighten up.
Then, a circular support extended from under the wheels, gripping the slippery steps and slowly moving down. Seeing this, Allison felt a bit superfluous.
She laughed awkwardly. “So, you can handle it yourself. That’s good.”
The guy finally spoke. His voice wasn’t deep but slightly hoarse, making it hard to guess his age. “I came up by myself. What do you think? Can I not handle going down?”
Allison pursed her lips. Okay, she was indeed superfluous.
“Sorry to bother you”
She quickly descended the stairs while the guy in the wheelchair looked up. Rain fell around Allison’s slender figure, leaving a faint scent of cherry blossoms in the air. It was pretty nice.
Soon, Allison’s figure disappeared from his view. The guy pulled his gaze back, looking indifferent…
After returning from the cemetery, Allison went straight to the hospital. Her mom’s condition was getting worse, and she was distraught. As she entered the room, she saw an unwelcome visitor.
“Why are you here?” Allison looked warily at Penelope standing by the bed. She didn’t believe Penelope was here to visit the sick.
Penelope was wearing a mask, wholly wrapped up from head to toe.
Caught off guard by Allison’s question, Penelope’s already bad mood worsened. She looked arrogantly at the woman before her, “Who do you think you are, talking to me like that?”
Grace immediately scolded, “Allison, be more respectful to Penelope!”
Penelope scoffed, walked up to Allison, “Allison, don’t forget your place.”
She lowered her voice, whispering in Allison’s ear, “Mrs. Lindberg’s position is mine, you’re just a stand–in. Don’t even dream that Lucian would like someone like you. Your mom’s illness… it only takes one word from me to kick her out of this hospital.”
Her allergies will be gone soon, and everything will return to normal when Lucian returns from England
Allison clenched her fist, finally lowering her head to say, “Miss, you should rest. You shouldn’t be walking around.”
