Chapter 45
Penelope was already out of the hospital before Lucian came back.
Her allergy was completely gone, leaving no traces on her body or face.
A black sedan pulled up at the Flanagan family’s front door. As Penelope descended the stairs, Leah hugged her tightly, “Let me look at you. You’re okay, thank god. You had me worried sick.”
“Mum, I promise I won’t mess around anymore.”
Nearby, Christopher called Penelope into the study and sternly said, “Enough of this. Best to keep your temper in check around the Lindbergs. Allison helped you out this time, and you should thank her properly”
“I hear you, Dad, Penelope said, though she didn’t take his words to heart.
Christopher shook his head helplessly, knowing she had not taken his words seriously. “Penelope, now that you’re engaged to Lucian, you can’t embarrass the Flanagans or the Lindbergs. It’s time to cut ties with any past inappropriate relationships.”
Penelope had been spoiled by Leah, dating in Junior high school and in high school, he discovered her with a blond man.
Penelope felt a little guilty. She had been with Pete at the hospital just a few days ago.
“Dad, I know my boundaries. I won’t do anything I shouldn’t. Don’t worry, she said, sounding a bit wronged and her eyes reddening.
His heart softened, and he sighed, “I’m just looking out for you. The Lindbergs are not like us; you have to be cautious around them.”
“I understand,” Penelope replied obediently, but her resentment was all directed at Allison.
But thinking about her and Pete, she suddenly remembered what Pete had said.
Coming down from upstairs, she immediately found Leah. “Mom, Allison has been with Lucian for so long that they might have gotten intimate. What if she gets pregnant and uses it against us?”
Leah had not thought about this, but Penelope’s reminder made her realize the gravity of the situation.
After all, that’s how Grace almost got with Christopher, but she caught it in time.
Leah gritted her teeth. She must deal with this situation urgently. If Allison were pregnant with Lucian’s child, she would use it against her and Penelope. After all, who wouldn’t want to be the Lindberg family’s daughter–in–law? Allison, as a maid, would not pass up such an opportunity.
She gripped Penelope’s hand tightly, reassuringly saying, “Don’t worry, I’ll handle this.”
After spending a day at the hospital, Allison came home in the evening. As soon as she opened the door, she felt a sharp pain in the back of her neck and blacked out.
When she woke up, she found herself in a private clinic.
Leah’s voice rose, What did you say? Could you repeat that, please?”
