Emma seemed to realize it. She looked a little shocked. “Allison, you don’t think Patty would do that, do you?”
“She’s after power. She’s smart, surely, but sometimes she’s too smart for her own good.”
Emma nodded earnestly. “Allison, I swear I won’t betray you. You brought me up in this circle from scratch. No matter what happens, I’m on your side.”
“Allison.” Emma’s eyes gleamed with determination as she clenched her fists. “I am ready to stand by you for life, to be your agent.”
Allison smiled slightly. “Speaking of which, I’ve got some fishfingers in the fridge. I’ll fry some up. We’ve barely eaten tonight, and Hudson gave us a headache. But let’s focus on our next move.”
Emma chimed in, “Let me do it. Forget the fishfingers. I’ll whip up some pasta for you. Let you try my cooking skills.”
Fifteen minutes later.
Allison and Emma sat at the dining table. There were two steaming plates of pasta between them. This was simple, but the flavors were spot-on. Allison took a bite and complimented, “Em, your pasta is so delicious. Some guy’s gonna be so lucky one day.”
Emma blushed. “That lucky guy is still nowhere to be seen.”
“Emma, the road ahead might get tough. Are you with me?”
“Absolutely. Even if you leave Epic Entertainment, I’d follow you to any company.”
“Where’s Robbie now?”
“At the Blue Club,” Emma responded immediately. “The owner’s keeping an eye on Robbie. No trouble there, and he’s off the radar for now.”
Emma continued, “The other guy in the video is Tanner. I’m worried if they can’t get to Robbie, they might try Tanner. What if they bribe him?”
“Tanner’s an only child of the Ramsel family, and they’re famous in the fashion industry, way bigger than the Flanagans. Mrs. Ramsel is a force to be reckoned with. With Tanner as her only son, Penelope won’t get far with the Ramsels.”
Allison’s thoughts drifted back to high school, when she’d just returned home, sneaking through the Flanagans’ side entrance.
