The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 51

Lucian took a peek at his watch; he realized he still had plenty of time left while saying, "Sounds good."

He initially planned to return tomorrow but returned early to surprise Penelope.

The car chimed along smoothly, but suddenly a woman in light brown clothing popped into his view. Shawn, quick on the uptake, slammed the brakes.

Once the car halted, Shawn turned to Lucian and said, "Mr. Lindberg, are you all right?"

Lucian just shook his head.

Shawn had been his assistant for years, stellar driving skills, so he didn't sweat the small stuff.

Outside, rain hammered the ground.

Suddenly, he heard Shawn's voice from outside, "Mr. Lindberg, it's Allison."

He frowned; a flicker of unusual emotion crossed his cold face, but it vanished quickly, elusive.

Allison sat on the ground.

The rain drenched her hair and clothes, trickling down her cheeks.

Suddenly, the sound of the rain vanished.

A pair of black leather shoes stepped into her line of sight.

She slowly lifted her head, saw his neat black trousers, and above that, a face she knew too well.

Lucian. Was she dreaming?

Why would she see him here?

She must be dreaming.

A self-mocking smile played on her face.

"Why are you here….."

She was burning up, Lucian's big hand on her forehead.

He looked at the woman in his arms, her face as pale as paper, looking fragile like a porcelain doll.

Half a minute later, he spoke slowly, "Head to Magnolia Gardens, call James and tell him to come."

Shawn blinked, then quickly nodded, "Right."

They'd miss Mrs. Lindberg's birthday banquet if they were heading to Magnolia Gardens.

Magnolia Gardens was Mr. Lindberg's private residence, where he lived before he bought Juniper Ridge after getting engaged, intending it for Penelope as their marital home.

About half an hour later, they arrived at Magnolia Gardens.

James quickly examined Allison; his expression immediately turned serious, "You called me urgently because she has a fever? You do know I just got back from a medical conference in the U.S. and am battling jet lag, right?"

Now in a fresh set of clothes, Lucian sat on the sofa, legs crossed, and asked, "How is she?"
