The man approaching was the same one who’d been chatting with that blonde guy earlier in the afternoon. He didn’t remember Emma’s face, but her figure was a detail he’d etched into his memory. “Has Hughes contacted you?” he asked. “I suspect he’s at Delectable Dishes on Elm Street right now. Heard that Robbie was spotted there, so Hughes rushed over.”
Delectable Dishes?
The music in the bar was loud. Emma barely caught the reference, but she immediately stood up, ready to leave. She realized she didn’t have Hughes’ contact information, so she quickly asked for it from the man in front of her.
“Hughes, I’m giving your number to this busty beauty. Don’t let me down, mate. That’s all I can do for you.”
...
Elm Street was a well-known place, offering most of the daily necessities anyone could need. There was a mid-sized supermarket, a fresh produce section, and a row of restaurants selling a variety of cuisines.
At this moment, at a place called Delectable Dishes.
In one of the private rooms.
A man, with a bruised and swollen face, was kneeling on the ground. “I’m sorry, Darian,” he pleaded. “Just give me a little more time. One day... no, two days!! Just two more days, I’ll borrow the money! I’ll pay you back as soon as I do!”
He felt like he was going to be killed by Darian.
A henchman took out three or four cards, a cell phone, and a wristwatch from Robbie’s pockets. The cards only had three dollars. The watch was a fake. Only the phone had any value. Darian was a loan shark, making loans and charging exorbitant interest. If someone couldn’t pay, he’d break his fingers; if someone owed more than 100,000, he’d break his leg.
Darian said, “Put his leg on the stool.”
A few henchmen grabbed Robbie, who seemed to sense what was about to happen. He began to yell, “Darian! I’ll pay you soon. Please spare me! Darian! I’ll do anything you want!!!”
