The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 696

Shawn hadn't seen Lucian lose his temper in ages.

The last time Mr. Lindberg blew his top, it was over something involving Ms. Zimmer too…

Meanwhile, Kenneth stood by the door, pale as a sheet. He shivered as the screams echoed through the room, his shoulders trembling.

Shawn glanced at Kenneth and knew Andrew and Hudson were finished. This guy, because he helped Miss Allison, was likely to be promoted. "Kenneth, you gotta be smart about this, man. Don’t end up like those two idiots in there, you hear?"

Kenneth nodded vigorously, "Got it."

He knew he had backed the right horse. Picked the winning side.

Allison settled into the car, closing her eyes. Her usually radiant face was now ashen. Since leaving the Red Jack Club, she hadn't said a word.

Emma draped a clean coat over her, and Allison's gaze was distant, unfocused. Whether she was genuinely upset or just putting on a façade of grief was unclear. Her eyes were empty.

She let out a small laugh, "Emma, I'm just one of Lucian's mistresses. If I go down, you're going down with me."

Emma took her hand, "That's not gonna happen. Even if it does, I'll be there with you." Realizing her tone was a bit too somber, she lightened it up, "Guys come and go. If one's gone, there's always another, and with a looker like you, Allison, and I'm not exactly chopped liver myself. There are plenty of fish in the sea. Worst comes to worst, you kick Lucian to the curb and snag one who's better trained."

Allison smiled again. "Thanks for tonight, Emma."

The producer was a friend of Aaron's, doing him a favor by casting the lead male. His part wasn’t large. Penelope's wasn’t either, but Allison had played her stand-in.

Originally, Penelope's character was a two-faced ingenue, a transformation only makeup could achieve. No one seemed to recognize her. Even if they sensed something was off, they'd never guess... it was Allison who had played the stand-in.

How ridiculous.

The sound of a key turning in the lock broke her reverie. Allison knew Lucian was back. She mustered a smile to greet him, "You're home."

As if nothing had happened at all.

Lucian had expected that when he returned, she'd be a little upset, naturally, after what she'd been through.
