The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 706

"Seriously, a contract?" Emily couldn't believe her eyes as she scrolled through her feed. "This blogger must be an insider!"

"Game over, Penelope, just give it up. You swiped the role fair and square, and we're not even die-hard fans of Allison; we're just here for the drama. Whether the part was meant for Allison or you, Penelope, it doesn't make a difference to us. We're just here for the juicy gossip. But if you're bold enough to take the role, why fear our chatter?"

"I'm not team Allison either; I'm just here for the gossip, folks. Penelope, are you about to hit me with a cease-and-desist? This is just like highway robbery, snatching roles from others. If you had earned it with your acting chops, fine, but to swoop in with your bigwig backers and snatch it away when someone's about to sign? That's just low!"

"Are cease-and-desist letters going on sale or what?"

"There's no way I'm watching 'Day Zero.' Not a dime of my money is going towards that box office."

"Count me in. I'm skipping 'Day Zero.'"

Emily's reputation, built over many years, could be jeopardized by this one film, leading to a dead end. That could make securing investments for future projects much more difficult. "Get me a leave of absence," Emily instructed her assistant. "Say I've had a heart condition flare-up and need to be hospitalized. Let the assistant director handle the rest of the shoot."

Emily decided to step back. She would leave the film in the hands of her second-in-command. If the movie bombed, it wouldn't be on her. She had done her best. But she felt guilty about Allison. After all their discussions about the character and the story, she never expected... Sometimes, it seemed, not even the strongest will could stand against the power of capital.
