David arrived and found Lysander sitting on the waiting bench just outside the operating room. An air of heavy tension encircled him like a storm cloud. Beads of sweat dotted his taut forehead, and his eyes, usually so controlled, had a reddish tinge, revealing his inner turmoil.
The operation room door was sealed shut, the red light glowing with the words "In Surgery", signaling the gravity of the moment without a word needing to be spoken.
Only Thalassa could have this effect on Lysander, stripping him of his usual composure, leaving him visibly on edge.
David stood before Lysander, delivering his report with due respect, "Mr. Sinclair, I've spoken with Elliott behind bars. Bruce was also part of the kidnap. It was Bruce who took Thalassa to the hotel room."
The security footage had been conveniently corrupted, leaving no visual record of Thalassa's abduction into the room.
Thus, aside from Thalassa herself, no one knew who had brought her to that hotel room.
Lysander had sent David to dig up the truth but never expected the trail to lead to Bruce.
David had barely finished speaking when Lysander's presence turned even more piercing. The tension was so thick that it seemed to choke the very air from the room.
David could sense Lysander's barely restrained fury and carefully continued, "Mr. Sinclair, Bruce was Ms. Everhart's father. He must have kidnapped her for a ransom and took her to the hotel room... He must have been planning to hand her over to someone else, and that person was Elliott. But then, Mr. Gordon intervened. He drove Elliott away and saved Ms. Everhart..."
David laid out the scenario, piecing it together from the evidence at hand.
Even though Bruce had taken Thalassa to that hotel room, David couldn’t to believe a father would harm his daughter.
Could anyone be that monstrous?
Surely, even Bruce must have a shred of conscience left.
As soon as David finished, Lysander's icy gaze skewered him and caused him to flinch and lower his head in admission of a possible misstep, "Mr. Sinclair, I'm just speculating. The real truth, though, I'm afraid only Ms. Everhart knows..."
Had he spoken out of turn?
