Otherwise, how could they possibly afford a villa in the upscale Starhaven neighborhood, living the high life even without a job?
Now that the money was gone, Bruce had no reason to hold back his anger towards Lucy. The masks were off.
Seeing Bruce's unyielding stance, Lucy's face contorted with rage, but fear soon took over as she broke down in tears, "Bruce, please, don't do this. Please just forgive me this once. It was a slip-up, and I swear it won't happen again!"
Lucy had set her sights on the potential windfall from a certain stock. Dreaming of a big score, she had thrown all their wealth into the market.
Stock trading was all about taking risks and having the nerve. If you were too timid, you'd never make a dime.
Over the years, Lucy had reaped substantial dividends from the market, growing bolder with each success. And so, with a wave of her hand, she had plunged all of their savings into the stock market.
But this time, their ship had capsized so quickly and disastrously.
"I can't trust you anymore. We're getting a divorce. Let's go, a divorce!" Bruce was livid; his fury boiling over as he grabbed Lucy's arm and dragged her towards the door.
But Lucy wouldn't budge. She plopped down on the floor, clutching the leg of the dining table to anchor herself so that Bruce couldn't drag her away.
She sobbed, "Bruce, please, calm down. Think about our daughter. She's not married yet. If we divorce, it will ruin her chances of finding a good match. We can make the money back. Please, you may just think of a way to get some money, and I promise to double it, triple, even tenfold... Our fortune will return!"
For years, these were the words she used to coax Bruce into handing over every penny he made.
And indeed, she had managed to double the money Bruce earned, which is why he had always willingly entrusted his earnings to her.
But now, Bruce struggled in vain to pull Lucy out for a divorce.
Her words made him release his grip. He panted as he glared at Lucy, "How sure are you?"
Seeing a glimmer of hope, Lucy quickly wiped away her tears and assured him, "One hundred percent!"
