Thalassa's eyes shimmered like the restless surface of the ocean with fear and surprise in their depths, "What are you planning to do?" she asked.
"You didn't want to leave with me all because you're rushing to see him, right? Since when does life hand out so many coincidences?" Lysander's commanding presence enveloped her.
Both Callum and Thalassa had offered explanations, but he just refused to believe them. The way Callum looked at her wasn't a simple affection of friendship.
Thalassa's pupils dilated with distress.
Did he really think that her urgency to leave and her refusal to go with him was all for the sake of meeting Callum?
A surge of anger bubbled up within her like boiling water on the verge of spilling over.
Her breath became erratic, and with a flash of indignation, she retorted, "Are you really clueless about why I don't want to go with you?"
"And how would I know, hmm?" Lysander's voice was magnetic and tinged with frustration, his jaw muscles tensing as he ground his teeth.
Struggling for a moment, Thalassa tried to push away his hands that pinned her arms, but to no avail. Annoyed, she locked eyes with him and burst out, "You and Susan were flirting like high school sweethearts, all lovey-dovey. That night she must've made you quite happy, huh? If two hundred thousand bucks can get someone to wait on you hand and foot, why wouldn't you jump at the deal? Even after she cursed you out, you let her off the hook. If I had cursed you, I bet you would've chopped me into pieces by now!"
Lysander's gaze darkened as he stared at her. Her chest heaved with anger, and like a wildcat, her eyes blazed with the force of her true words.
Was she really getting worked up and jealous because he was involved with another woman? It seemed as unlikely as the sun rising in the west.
Releasing one of her hands, Lysander lifted her chin with his index finger and stared intently into her eyes. "Who said I was involved with her that night?" he quipped.
Thalassa blinked in surprise, "What are you saying?"
"Do you even have the gall to ask that? Did you even consider what you put me through by running away and leaving me alone in the hotel, huh?" Lysander's thumb caressed her chin as if she were his small pet.
