His calloused fingertips brushed against the delicate skin of her forehead, sending shivers down her spine and causing her heart to race in a fluttering rhythm that seemed to lose its regular beat.
She clutched the bed sheets behind her, holding on until Lysander straightened up and put some distance between them. Only then did her pulse begin to settle.
Lysander looked down and saw she inhale through that oxygen mask. He asked with his deep, magnetic voice, "Are you hungry?"
The doctor had said that after a few minutes of oxygen session, she could remove the mask and eat.
Thalassa shook her head; she wasn't hungry. She'd had her fill of juices at the bar, and now she only needed to use the bathroom.
But she was still tethered to the oxygen, unable to move, and it was getting urgent.
"Point to where it hurts," Lysander said, his voice laced with concern as he noticed the furrow in her brow that hinted she was enduring some discomfort.
She lifted her hand and pointed towards the restroom. She needed to go there badly.
Understanding dawned on Lysander as he sat on the edge of the bed, picked up the oxygen tank, and, with a surprising assertiveness, scooped her into his arms.
Thalassa was caught off guard by this sudden, domineering move. She had been prepared to wait until after her oxygen session to relieve herself.
But Lysander, seemingly more anxious than she was, hoisted the oxygen tank and carried her off towards the restroom with determined strides.
Startled, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck for balance, lest she fall.
As she looked up at him, her eyes wide with disbelief. She could see the chiseled profile of his face, which was attractively sharp and alluring.
Her heart wavered just by gazing at him.
