Thalassa's heart skipped a beat, thrown off rhythm by the memory of his response to her question that day. Her pulse raced erratically, seeking escape from the turmoil within.
She quickly averted her gaze, refusing to look at his profile any longer, focusing straight ahead, and fell silent.
Lysander, the kind of man whose emotions were as intense as his possessiveness, was suffocating and painful.
She was just an ordinary woman, unable to bear the weight of his oppressive affection.
Nor could she imagine a life indefinitely by his side without any formal acknowledgment. All she yearned for was a simple, tranquil existence.
The car pulled to a stop in the driveway of the Royal Estates.
Experience had taught her if she didn't hurry out, Lysander would come and scoop her up in a princess carry that was as embarrassingly intimate as it was heart-fluttering, making her feel utterly uncomfortable. Especially with so many servants around, their eyes inevitably catching the scene, leaving her blushing and shy.
So the moment the car came to a halt, she hastily pushed the door open and stepped out onto the solid ground, heading towards the house.
Behind her, the sound of the car door closing signaled Lysander's exit. She quickened her pace, nearly running into the living room.
Fitch, the head butler, was directing the staff in their cleaning when he saw her. He greeted her with respectful politeness, "Ms. Everhart, welcome back."
"Yes, thank you. Carry on," Thalassa replied cordially.
No sooner had she spoken than she felt an imposing presence behind her. A looming shadow enveloped her before she could react, her feet lifted from the ground, and her body was suspended in air.
Thalassa gasped in surprise, her hands instinctively reaching for something stable to prevent a fall.
