Rosalind had grown accustomed to the wave of joy that would wash over Lysander every time she visited Royal Estates.
And she also preconceived this belief that she was Lysander's rock, his sole reason for venturing outside.
But today was different. Rosalind panicked in an instant, as if something were slowly slipping away from her hand.
"I'm out discussing business with my executive assistant, so grab some lunch on your own," Lysander spoke with patience.
"Where are you? Let me come find you. I worry about you being out alone..." Rosalind's voice was soft and caring.
"With my executive assistant here, there's nothing to worry about. Be good and have lunch on your own," Lysander replied before hanging up the call.
Sitting on the living room sofa at Royal Estates, Rosalind had barely mustered the courage to insist on joining Lysander when she realized he had already ended the call.
He was so authoritative that he wouldn't even let her finish her sentence. In that moment, Rosalind was struck by the realization of whom she was dealing with—Lysander, a man of immense power, who could turn the tide with a mere flick of his wrist.
He was accustomed to giving orders, not taking them. How could she have thought that her mere month of companionship could make him reliant on her and make him heed her words?
Lysander's temporary inability to stand or walk didn't make him cripple or live depend upon others.
Rosalind was suddenly becoming lucid. The more she realized, the heavier her heart felt, tangled with a sour discomfort.
Securing a place in Lysander's heart now seemed an even more daunting task.
Fitch and the staff meticulously served a steaming meal at the dining table, politely nodding, "Ms. Whitman, lunch is served."
Lifting her gaze, Rosalind's eyes shimmered with distress, "Did you serve Thalassa the same way when she was at Royal Estates?"
