Rosalind had always lived a sheltered and privileged life, never really facing hardship. If she ever crossed paths with misfortune or ill-intentioned people, she might not make it through unscathed.
Thalassa, on the other hand, was cut from a different cloth. Growing up under tough circumstances, she had tasted all flavors of life—the good, the bad, the bitter, and the sweet. She had been through the wringer and come out the other side stronger for it.
Even if the unthinkable happened, Thalassa would weather the storm without much difficulty. Rosalind, in contrast, might crumble under the weight of real adversity.
That's why Joshua, their father, chose to worry more about his delicate youngest daughter. He decided to entrust Rosalind to Lysander, believing that only in his care could he find peace of mind.
Even contemplating his untimely demise, Joshua felt reassured knowing Rosalind would be looked after.
Though he carried a sense of guilt when it came to Thalassa, his bond with Rosalind, who had grown up by his side, held a deeper connection. Guilt, it seemed, could never outweigh favoritism.
"Dad, you're overthinking things. The doctors said that with proper rest, you'll recover just fine," Rosalind reassured Joshua.
Upon waking, Joshua felt an urgency to settle his affairs, as if preparing for the worst. This made Rosalind anxious.
Joshua sighed, a mix of resignation and fatigue in his voice, "I used to think I was still young. This ordeal made me realize I'm not as invincible as I thought. Life is unpredictable. While I'm still here, I want to sort everything out, so I'll have no regrets, even if something happens."
"Dad, stop talking like that. You're going to be fine. You have to live to be a hundred," Rosalind said, her voice tinged with fear at the thought of losing her father.
