If it hadn't been for Payton's firm grip, she would have already lunged forward to scratch the faces of Hertha and Thalassa.
"You—" Hertha began, her voice charged with emotion, but Thalassa stopped her. Thalassa glanced at her and shook her head gently, "Let's go."
Her voice was hoarse. After she spoke, she turned and walked away quickly.
"Thalassa!" Hertha hurried after her.
Alaric, seeing the loathing in Amelia and Payton's eyes as they watched Thalassa and Hertha leave, tried to clear the air. "Thalassa was also here for a check-up a few days ago. She just happened to pass by this room and got curious. It wasn't intentional; please don't misunderstand."
After explaining, Alaric followed Hertha and Thalassa.
Thalassa was walking so fast down the corridor that Hertha was almost unable to keep up.
"Thalassa, don't walk so fast. Wait for me," Hertha said as she jogged over and reached out to grasp Thalassa's arm.
A warm tear fell, by chance, onto the back of her hand. Hertha was startled and, with a nervous hand, lifted Thalassa's face. As soon as she did, Hertha saw her tear-streaked face and froze, quickly saying, "Thalassa, don't cry. Why are you crying?"
At Hertha's words, Thalassa's nose tingled even more, and her tears flowed even more freely.
Hertha's heart ached at the sight, and she pulled Thalassa into a hug. "Thalassa, don't cry. It's not your fault, nor is it Lysander's fault. You heard them, didn't you? Leopold was the one who caused those two workers' demise; it was his own guilt that led him to his end."
Saying this made Hertha feel upset too. The heartache was palpable. Leopold, such a stand-up guy, to have met such an end was truly lamentable.
