"Ah!" Susan's scream echoed through the private room, sending shivers down everyone's spine.
Thalassa, hearing her cry, felt her heart skip a beat—it was genuinely terrifying.
Yet, it seemed like she was the only one affected. Everyone else in the room seemed indifferent, as if scenes like this were all too familiar to them.
Just moments before, Susan was holding her head sideways, not feeling particularly distressed. But now, as Payne twisted her neck around, it felt like her head was about to part ways with her body.
The pain was unbearable, making it hard to breathe, with tears and snot running all over her face.
Payne, with a cold expression, sternly asked Susan, "Ready to talk now? Who's the mastermind behind all this?"
"You... you..." Susan gasped for air.
Payne moved his neck, causing a series of intimidating cracks, unlike the sound of Susan's neck that seemed on the verge of breaking.
Payne spoke slowly, his tone full of authority, "This isn't some kind of off-the-books interrogation. The evidence against you, item by item, is all laid out right here. I'm just asking you a question, understand?"
Hearing his words, Susan trembled with fear. She had earlier accused Lysander of using unauthorized methods since he wasn't a public official. But Payne, he was a bona fide cop.
His actions, all aimed at catching criminals and conducting interrogations.
Even if they killed her, it would be considered justified.
Susan, now terrified out of her wits, struggled to breathe, tears streaming down her face, her body shaking. In a desperate bid to save herself, she finally caved, stuttering, "I'll talk, I'll... The man behind me... The man behind me is... Joshua!"
"What?"
Susan's revelation left Thalassa in shock.
