By the time Alaric snapped out of it, Hertha had already reached the BMW, opening the door and preparing to get in.

Alaric, with swift steps, hurried to the passenger side, flinging the door open and sliding in.

Hertha froze, staring at him in disbelief. "Alaric, I've never seen you this eager about anything. What, rushing home for a blind date or something?"

"Didn't I just finish a blind date?" Alaric's lips curved into a mischievous smile, his eyes twinkling as he looked at Hertha.

Playing dumb, Hertha looked around exaggeratedly. "With whom, exactly? There's no eligible bachelor or bachelorette in sight. Surely not the salesperson? Have we stopped caring about gender in the dating game now?"

Alaric's smile faded, his tone slightly annoyed. "Who said anything about not caring about gender?"

"So, who then? Was it Georgia who you managed to drive away earlier?" Hertha continued with her feigned ignorance.

Alaric's briefly kindled enthusiasm dimmed. "Let's just drive, okay? Weren't you heading to Royal Estates? It'll be dark soon."

With his serious tone, Hertha decided not to beat around the bush anymore. She got into the car, buckled her seatbelt but didn’t start the car immediately. Instead, she shifted around in the seat, testing its comfort.

"Genuine leather, huh? Feels different; so comfy," Hertha mused.

Alaric's lips twitched. "A three hundred grand car and you're talking about genuine leather? That's a luxury for million-dollar rides."

"What a buzzkill," Hertha shot him a look. "To me, this is genuine leather. If I say it's genuine, then it is. Can't you let me boast for once about driving such a fancy car?"

"Oh, right, right, it's genuine leather. Whatever you say," Alaric quickly conceded.
