Chapter 726
Leopold’s voice was as smooth as velvet. It was brimming with concern and urgency.
Just like five years ago, he was tender and understanding towards her.
Thalassa felt her heart break. Her eyes welled up with tears that she could no longer hold back.
Despite the recent danger, she hadn’t cried.
But now, at the sound of Leopold’s caring voice, she could no longer contain her emotions. Her urge to cry was overwhelming.
“It’s okay now. Don’t be scared.” Leopold, seeing her tears, felt a wrenching ache in his heart. He pulled her into his arms and held her gently.
He wanted to hold her tight and give her warmth and security.
But her rigid body and the trembling hand clutching his collar made him soften his embrace.
Thalassa didn’t cry out loud, but her tears fell uncontrollably, dotting the bedspread. She gritted her teeth as she struggled to control her emotions.
Leopold, I didn’t mean any harm. I just wanted to scare her a little.” Charlotte weakly explained from the doorway.
Originally, she had intended to leave, but when she saw Leopold rush from the elevator to the room, she turned back.
With Leopold present, she didn’t dare to overstep.
Leopold shot Charlotte a fierce glare. “Get out!”
Startled, Charlotte’s heart beat erratically under his gaze.
Sulkily, she retreated to the doorway, ready to leave. But after seeing Leopold cradle Thalassa so intimately and protectively, she had a sudden idea.
She didn’t leave, but instead hid outside and switched on her phone’s camera to secretly film the couple inside.
Leopold, completely focused on Thalassa, held her close with one hand on her back and the other holding her hand. His gaze was filled with nothing but her. “Thalassa, I’m sorry. I should’ve gotten to you sooner.”
He rushed into the hotel, only to see two men escorting Thalassa into an elevator. Despite his efforts to catch up, the elevator doors closed, and it left
without him.
To make sure he knew what floor Thalassa was taken to, he waited downstairs and watched the elevator’s progress. Only when he was sure did he take another elevator up.
But he was still too late.
Hearing Leopold’s remorse, Thalassa released her death grip on his shirt, which had resulted in two buttons being pulled off. She didn’t notice her exposed state.
After wiping away her tears, she reassured him. “You didn’t do anything wrong. You don’t need to apologize. I should be thanking you.”
Thalassa…” Leopold’s voice was tinged with sorrow as he called her name.
His gaze was filled with longing and affection.
After feeling her heart flutter under his intense stare, Thalassa knew exactly what he was feeling too.
“Leopold, those in love don’t always need to be together. We each have our own hardships. Accepting reality is the best thing we can do for each other.” After saying this, Thalassa rose from the bed, naturally moving out of Leopold’s embrace and creating a distance between them.
That was when she noticed the camera at the door.
