The Billionaire’s Secret Quartet (Thalassa and Elowen) novel Chapter 947

Chapter 947

Bruce hurriedly sifted through the pages, his fingers driven by a sense of urgency, searching for that one piece of information that could lead him to Evelyn. Finally, he found her file. However, as he skimmed through the details, a sinking feeling enveloped him- Evelyn hadn’t listed her hometown. The trail went cold; Evelyn had vanished into thin air.

His expression darkened, a storm brewing behind his eyes.

“What are you sneaking around here for?” The study door creaked open, and a distinctly sharp female voice cut through the silence.

It was Lucy. Bruce immediately snapped the folder shut, lifting his gaze to meet hers. His menacing scowl melted away, replaced with a sly, honeyed grin, “Hey, Lucy, back from your Zumba class?”

What are you hiding there? You look awfully guilty,” Lucy shot back, unimpressed. She marched over, reaching for the folder he was clutching.

Bruce’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly lifted his hand out of her reach, a flash of annoyance crossing his face as he retorted, “I’m just reading a contract, thinking about getting back to the old grind. But you, with your suspicious mind, how can anyone live with that?”

“If you have nothing to hide, why act so defensive?” Lucy snapped back.

With a glare, Bruce thrust the folder into her hands, “Here, take a look then! Go on, check it from top to bottom. And if there’s nothing amiss, we’re getting a divorce! I can’t stand this constant distrust!”

He stood with his hands on his hips, visibly seething as he turned away, leaving Lucy to her scrutiny.

The word ‘divorce’ hit Lucy like a ton of bricks, her aggressive stance crumbling. The documents she had been so eager to snatch now felt like a hot potato. She dared not open them. If she did, Bruce would hold her to that threat of a divorce.

Over the years, they’d had their share of threats to separate, but Lucy had always been the fierce one, standing her ground, refusing to let go. Her obsession with Bruce was deeper than that of any other woman. He had a way with words, a charm that held them captive, and Lucy was no exception.

Even though she knew about his indiscretions, the thought of losing her status as his wife and the thought of being dethroned were unbearable. A divorce would mean losing Bruce for good.

“Alright, alright, Bruce, I was just trying to rattle you. I wasn’t really going to check. Don’t be mad.” Lucy cajoled, nudging his elbow and handing back the folder without even flipping open its protective cover.

Bruce decided to let it go, snatching the documents and placing them on the shelf with a scowl, “All these years, I’ve had more than enough of this. If it weren’t for our daughter, I’d divorce you in a heartbeat!”

He stormed out, leaving Lucy flustered and fearful that he was genuinely angry. She hurried after him, “Bruce, please don’t be mad. You’ll only hurt yourself. I’ll stop, I promise. Look at you, just out of the hospital with bruises still visible. We don’t want you back in there. I told you I wanted to pick you up when you got discharged, and you wouldn’t have it.”

Bruce shook off her hand from his arm, “With you acting like a jailer all the time, you’ll be the death of me!”
