The Bond Between Us (Anastasia and Herman) novel Chapter 758

Sandy agreed on the surface, but her mind was busy plotting how to keep Herman from leaving. She was quick-witted and realized that the key to keeping Herman lay with Nicholas. If something happened to Nicholas, Herman, being his son, wouldn't be able to leave. With a plan forming, Sandy seized the moment while Herman was upstairs showering and changing to have a quick chat with Nicholas. Nicholas wasn't keen on Herman leaving either, so he went along with Sandy's plan.

In Riverdale, at the hospital, Clarissa had spent the night and only woke up the following afternoon. The doctor's tests showed her blood had traces of sleeping pills. When Jason had brought her in, the doctor thought she'd just had too much to drink, which seemed unlikely. Now, seeing the test results, Jason immediately thought of the meatball soup from last night. His gaze turned sharp as he looked at Alisa, who had stayed at the hospital all night and was feeling anxious. She was worried Jason would find out about the sleeping pills.

"Anastasia, I want to know what happened. Why does my mom have sleeping pills in her system?"

"What?" Alisa feigned surprise. "Jason, I have no idea! How could I know? You should ask Aunt Clarissa. She suddenly passed out last night, and it scared me."

Jason's disappointment was clear as he pressed on: "Don't forget what I do for a living, Anastasia. If you don't tell the truth, I'll have to start an investigation."

"I-I...," Alisa stammered, panicking inside. "I really don't know."

Even if caught, she wouldn't confess. Alisa thought to herself, Malia was the one who bought and used the pills; she just knew about it. What did it have to do with her? Even if Jason investigated, it would lead back to Malia, not her. Seeing Alisa's refusal to admit anything, Jason let out a bitter laugh. "Anastasia, you know how I've treated your family over the years. I've been more than fair to the Browns. My mom eats one meal at your house and ends up unconscious with sleeping pills in her system, and you claim ignorance?"

"Jason, I really don't know," Alisa pleaded. "Maybe it was my mom. She’s been struggling with insomnia; she might have mixed things up."

"Mixed up? How do you mix that up?" Jason's words were sharp and mocking. "Did she mistake the sleeping pills for salt in the meatball soup? I'm starting to doubt if there was ever anything real between us. Some things are better left unsaid. For Will's sake, let's keep some dignity."

Jason's words made Alisa's face flush with embarrassment. They both knew the truth, even if it wasn't openly acknowledged. The Brown family was scheming against Jason.
