The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 202

Avery shook her head in a daze to assure Cayden she was okay. At the same time, she was worried that his somber face would frighten Zachary, so the woman quickly retreated from Cayden's embrace. Then, she nodded at him politely to express her thanks.

Begrudgement filled Cayden's eyes which were initially full of concern and rebuke as he watched Avery walk away with Zachary. I don't like how she is so cold toward me! Even if she tries to show the strangers here that nothing is going on between us, I'm still frustrated. My possessiveness makes me want to walk over, grab her, and announce to everyone that she is my woman! Not only that, she has given birth to both of my kids too!

On the other hand, Avery didn't dare to turn her head around. She did not look at those leaders either, fearing they would misunderstand the situation.

With Zachary in her arms, she lowered her head and nodded respectfully at those leaders, her eyes only landing on the lower half of their bodies.

“Mr. Moore, you are a gentleman! Why didn't we notice it when we dined together previously?” One of the middle-aged male leaders teased Cayden.

Cayden was an attractive man who was a rather rare species. Even with celebrities around, one could hardly find a man who looked as mature and poised as him. His features were well-defined and chiseled, shouting masculinity at anyone who laid their eyes on him. His eyes were deep set, enough to make any women fall for him with only one look. Even though Cayden had a gorgeous face, a good figure, and a great personality, he wasn't attracted to any beautiful woman who made their move on him.

That made the whole situation even more surprising when those leaders noticed that the typically cold and aloof Cayden had his gaze fixated on the plain-looking woman.

Avery heard one of the leaders teasing Cayden when she left. Fear crept up in her heart but she had no choice but to walk further away.

After that incident, Avery did all she could to avoid Cayden during the survey on the topography of the land. She feared that someone would see their interaction and spread rumors about them.

Occupied with work, all of them had no time for lunch so they had an early dinner.

Meanwhile, Cayden and Xavier had to head to a drinking session with those leaders. Therefore, they wouldn't join the rest for dinner.

The staff heard from experienced staff that the dinner between Cayden and those male leaders was nothing compared to the drinking session at night. There were many ways for men to drum up their entertainment.

The earlier incident where Cayden held Avery and stopped her from falling during the survey on the topography of the land was spread among everyone.

However, they thought Avery was Cayden's cousin's wife. At the time of the incident, she was holding Cayden's son, so it wasn't weird for Cayden to save them.

Thus, nobody thought that there was something going on between Cayden and Avery. They only knew that underneath Cayden's cold exterior was a kind man. They thought he cared for his cousin's wife.

While they were deep in a conversation, Christopher defended the male species, “Hey, quit talking about men. What did men do? Are men born guilty?”

Anna smirked. “Of course, there is nothing wrong with you. That's because you don't have the money to do so!” With that, she looked at Avery. “Ery, it's okay for us to gossip about Mr. Moore, right?”

Even though they desperately wanted to gossip, Avery's colleagues held back knowing that she was Cayden's relative.

Feeling a little reserved, Avery lifted her head. “Go on. Mr. Moore and I... are... not that familiar with each other.”

The moment she said that, everyone took her words seriously.

Anna immediately leaned over. “Last year, a young award-winning actress was seen heading to a drinking party. She was wounded so severely after that and had to be hospitalized for more than a month. Rumors said this actress sat on Mr. Moore's lap during the party. Of course, that's just a rumor. Nobody had a photo of them together.”

Avery was speechless. She mused, “This... is so scary. Let's hope this is just an absurd rumor and not the truth!”

When the sky turned dark, Avery brought Zachary and Rory, who were still outside playing in the yard, back to the room.

When her colleagues asked whether Cayden was going to come over to pick up his kids, Avery answered their question half-heartedly.

When the clock turned nine o'clock at night, Avery's colleagues and the two kids in her room fell asleep. As the town was all calm and quiet, the group's sleep quality improved on their first night there.

Avery was asleep when the phone suddenly rang. As she feared disturbing the kids' rest, she turned off the vibration and ringtone in exchange for the silent mode. It was the flashing screen that woke her up. She looked at the phone number, hesitating as she picked up. “Hello, what's the matter?”

“Why did you pick up only now? Open the door!” Cayden's low voice rang across the phone.

Watching the sleeping kids with the help of the moonlight, Avery probed, “It's too late. Don't wake the kids up. Can't you head back to Ackleton alone?” Avery couldn't bear to wake the kids up, nor did she want them to leave her side. The woman didn't dare to yearn for more but to hold her babies to sleep for the night.

Cayden went to dinner with these leaders. I'm sure they would drink while they are at it. With that in mind, given how busy he was, it was normal for him to forget about his kids. With his hectic schedule, I thought I'd get to spend another night with my babies. I didn't expect him to be sober after the drinking party.

Cayden lowered his voice and commanded, “It's up to me to decide whether I want to leave with the kids. Let me in first.”

With one hand on the phone and her eyes on the sleeping kids, Avery darted her eyes to the black door. She whispered, “Are you drunk? Ask Xavier to find you a hotel. If not, go back to Ackleton to rest. Don't... Don't come in...”

Nighttime in the small town was quiet, especially in a yard like the one that Avery was staying in. If Cayden came in and did something to her while he was drunk, it would be impossible for Avery to explain the situation to everyone else.

“Are you scared I'll have sex with you once I go in? We did it before and you liked it, right?” Cayden's voice was husky. It sounded sexy coming from the other end of the phone.

“What are you talking about? Shut up!” Avery blushed. Heat radiated from her cheeks to her fair neck. Her heart started racing too.

The first thing one would see when they walked up from the first floor to the second floor was a tiny living room surrounded by rooms that Avery's colleagues occupied.

Now that Cayden was standing before her room, she could explain it as Cayden coming to pick up his kids if someone saw them. Nonetheless, if someone heard the words coming from Cayden's mouth, they would think something had happened between Avery and Cayden.

If so, how am I supposed to stay in the company in the future?
