The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 214

After being told to do a DNA test out of the blue, Avery started to panic.

What if Cayden made a mistake?

What if Zachary and Rory weren't hers? What then?

In that instance, severe anxiousness and unease began to take root in her heart.

She had always longed for a family, so she was terrified of losing them.

Even though the possibility that the children might not be hers was almost zero, Avery still felt as if a knife was lodged in her throat, hurting her every time she breathed.

Cayden told her to do the DNA test in the afternoon, but Avery did not ask him about the exact time. In fact, she was trying to escape reality.

The two of them talked face-to-face and agreed to do the DNA test. After that, the conversation ended.

As they were alone, a hazy yet suggestive air slowly diffused over the solemn atmosphere.

“I'll leave now and inform my colleagues in Livingsfill.” Avery cooked up an excuse before she turned and proceeded to go to the living room.

However, her slender wrist was lightly grabbed by the man's huge and coarse hand. The next moment, her body was pulled back and pressed against the marble wall. As she looked up, her thick and long eyelashes fluttered.

In her moist and crystal-clear eyes, Cayden saw a tinge of tenderness. Instantly, he was mesmerized and he couldn't hold himself back.

Avery didn't dare to meet his eyes. She only saw Cayden's Adam's apple bob up and down before she was hit by a strong and all-encompassing male presence, making her face hot. When their lips met, her heart beat faster, and even her breathing started to go out of control.

Even though it was just a kiss, she was too nervous that she almost bit her tongue.

Nevertheless, Cayden didn't plan to let her off the hook. In between the kisses, he teasingly whispered in her ear, “Why are you so tense? Have we not slept together more than once?”

Avery's face gradually blushed.

Using a sudden burst of strength from God-knows-where, Avery gave Cayden a mighty shove before running away with a hand on her heated face.

On the way back to Ackleton, Avery brought her laptop. She was worried that her company would need her for something, so the device would come in handy for her to deal with emergencies.

At that moment, she was attentively working with her colleagues at Livingsfill through an online synchronous meeting.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Rory and Zachary walked out of their room. Rubbing their eyes, they said, “Ms. Ery, we have finished sleeping.”

The children had initially looked around but couldn't find their father. Therefore, Rory and Zachary went to Avery and rested their chubby little arms on Avery's lap.

After glancing at the complicated diagram filled with overlapping and crisscrossing lines on the screen, Zachary asked, “Where's Daddy?”

“He's in the study,” Avery answered.

While working, she could vaguely hear him making two calls and saying something, but she couldn't make out what was said.

After all, the door was closed, and it was somewhat sound-proofing.

“Ms. Ery, I'm hungry...” Rory whined. Standing by Avery, Rory nuzzled up against the woman. Then, the little girl climbed up Avery's lap, sat on it, and put her little hands around Avery's neck, which the little girl thought smelled nice.

“What do you want for lunch?” Avery hugged Rory affectionately and a heartfelt smile blossomed on her face. And then, she kissed Rory's forehead lightly.

When Cayden left his study, he saw the heartwarming scene of a mother bonding with her daughter in the living room.

Avery played with them for a while before she panted in exhaustion with Rory in her hands. However, when she was having a fun time with her daughter, she saw Cayden standing from across the room out of the corner of her eye. She didn't know how long he had been standing there.

Instantly, she froze. When Avery turned her head back, her eyes met with his.

“We'll eat outside. Also, I've informed the DNA testing center that we'll be there afterward,” Cayden said to Avery before turning to the twins. “Change your clothes and stop being so clingy.”

When everyone walked out of the condominium, Avery was last.

Nevertheless, Zachary and Rory joined her at the back.

In a smart suit and as tall as he was, Cayden walked swiftly forward with his long legs. Soon, they reached the parking lot and got into their car. Cayden opened the car door and let Avery and the two children get in first.

All of this was seen by the receptionist in the high-end condominium. They're such a happy family. The dad's bringing the lady and their two children for an outing.

However, the receptionist and her colleagues worked in a heavily guarded place with many surveillance cameras; otherwise, she would love to take a photo of the family if she could. She was sure that if it was shared on the internet, many people would view it.

After all, that man was the legendary CEO of Trident Group.

On the journey to the private kitchen, Avery was too nervous to say anything. Moreover, the closer she got to the testing center, the more worried she got about the results.

When they arrived at the private kitchen, an older lady, seemingly the owner of the establishment, came personally to greet them. Instead of receiving her customers, it was more likely she came out to take a look at Avery.

If a man like Cayden wanted to do a DNA test with a woman and his son, the first thing he would want was absolute secrecy. He would never allow any of this to leak out.

In the circles of the upper echelon, almost everyone knew that Cayden had two children when he was young, and they were twins—a boy and a girl. There would be no one who would not be curious about this kind of gossip. Even so, no one could identify the twins' biological mother even though several years had passed.

Some guessed that the twins were conceived through a surrogate mother, but as one would know, fertilization required sperm and an egg. In that case, who was the egg donor?

When Avery sat down, she received a scrutinizing gaze from the older lady. At her intense stare, Avery became unsettled.

“I heard from Cayden that you're Ery? What would you like to have? Is there anything you prefer?” the lady asked, but she was still staring fixedly at Avery's face.

But for an unknown reason, the lady thought the woman's young and fair face looked familiar.

However, she couldn't, for the life of her, recall where she had seen that face.

Despite being increasingly unsettled under the lady's gaze, Avery politely replied, “Yes, my name is Avery Rumpley. You can call me Ery and I'm okay with anything.”

“Got it. I'll get you some of our signature dishes then,” answered the older lady warmly.

“Thank you,” said Avery.

When the lady left, Cayden, who sat in the opposite seat, said, “That was Silvia Wright. Mdm. Wright used to be elementary school classmates with my mother and Aunt Talia.”

At that, Avery became even more visibly perturbed. “Then, would she tell you—”

Before she could finish her sentence, Cayden cut in. Lifting his head, he said, “No, she wouldn't. I don't know what happened, but I heard that when they were young, Mdm. Wright one-sidedly announced that she would cut off all contact with my mother.”

Avery fell silent.

Cut off all contact?

At those words, Avery thought that Silvia was kind of cute.

When the healthcare provider came over, Avery had to admit that her heart had almost jumped to her throat.

The healthcare provider was a woman, and she was carrying a box. Before she opened it, she first shook hands with Cayden and Avery.

Then, when she lowered her head, she saw Zachary and Rory extending their little hands.

“Hello, you two,” the healthcare provider said before shaking both of their hands.

“Good afternoon, lady!” the both of them greeted in unison.

Retrieving the DNA samples was an easy process. It wasn't as complicated as Avery thought for the whole thing was done in just under ten minutes.

After the healthcare provider left the place on the restaurant's second floor, Zachary asked, “Daddy, why did that lady want our hair?”

“So that we can test whether you're smart or not,” Cayden replied half-heartedly. Afterward, he exchanged his plate, which had pieces of steak he carefully sliced with Avery's plate.

At the side, Avery watched awkwardly as her plate with the untouched piece of steak was taken away by Cayden.

Meanwhile, downstairs, in the kitchen, Silvia, who was wearing branded clothing, folded her hands in deep contemplation. She couldn't shake off the feeling she had seen that face somewhere.

Where have I seen that face before?

I think... I think she looks a little like a young Claire... Right?
