As the black Bentley gradually pulled away from the hospital's entrance, Avery felt better when she looked at the adorably innocent children.
On the other hand, Cayden's gaze was not on the kids but was intensely fixated on Avery's face, and she was unaware of it.
The two children were practically glued to their mother while they chattered as if there were endless topics that needed to be shared with their mother.
Cayden suddenly wondered whether he was less important than the children.
At that thought, the man became extremely jealous.
Rory pursed her lips as she muttered, “During New Year's Day, when I was three, our grandaunt brought her two granddaughters over. They were around my age and had braided hair that looked pretty. They told me their mommy braided their hair for them and asked why I didn't have a mommy. I-I was so frustrated that I cried.”
Taking in Rory's aggrieved expression, Avery couldn't help pulling the little girl into her embrace. She lowered her head and planted a kiss on her daughter's forehead. “I'll braid your hair every day from now on.”
“Okay, Mommy.” Being in Avery's embrace came as a comfort to Rory.
Before Rory could enjoy the warmth to the fullest with her eyes shut in her mother's embrace, she felt the air around her abruptly becoming cold. It was an eerie and unnerving feeling.
It was then Zachary's turn to whine, “Back when Great-grandpa allowed me to play soccer with some friends, the other kids would have their mommies bring them water whenever they were thirsty. Their mommies would wipe their sweat for them too. I was the only one who had to use my sleeves to wipe my sweat, and I was even scolded when I got home.”
In truth, the child wanted to mention he was scolded by his father, but since the man was right inside the car with them, Zachary did not dare say that.
Nonetheless, despite not saying who scolded him out loud, Zachary had conveyed his message clearly.
The one who scolded him could not be Jeffrey, as the old man coddled the two children.
As for the housekeepers, they would never dare to scold the little prince.
That meant that the only person who could have scolded the child was his failure of a hard-hearted father.
Avery kept her head lowered, and though she did not immediately shoot a disapproving glare at Cayden, her impression of him worsened deep down.
The said father who was being ignored while listening to the children's pitiful complaints merely huffed.
He then plastered a stern look on his face before glancing at the children. “You two, aren't you talking a bit too much?”
The two children turned to look at their father and were about to apologize with a pout when Rory heard the woman holding her say, “Can you stop treating them like this?”
That rebuke seemed to have been buried in her mind for a long time, and she finally expressed it aloud.
Cayden, who was suddenly criticized for no reason, became visibly upset. Even though he was frustrated internally, he did not say anything in the end.
Witnessing such an exchange, the children seemed to have noticed some changes.
In the past, Daddy was the big boss, and everyone had to listen to him. Now, he seems to have stepped down from his throne and has become the little boss...
Meanwhile, Nicole met up with Dylan.
Because of the fuss from before, Milana did not dare to follow Nicole when the former heard Dylan was going to be there. Instead, she sat in the car and waited for Nicole.
Nicole did not bring along her other two assistants and only brought Milana.
When it came to a celebrity's personal travels, whichever assistant they brought meant that that assistant had the celebrity's absolute trust that nothing about their personal life would be leaked.
However, Milana did not think that was the case. She felt that Nicole chose to bring her along instead of the others because it would be easier for Nicole to bully her when they were alone.
Nicole acts all educated and elegant in front of outsiders, so that must be the case!
In the restaurant, Dylan was cutting up his steak with his fork and knife when he asked, “You want to get acquainted with Cayden? Am I hearing you wrong? That's pretty unexpected and sudden.”
The adults of distinguished families appeared refined on the surface, but that was not necessarily true behind closed doors. It was relatively common for them to drink too much and hook up with whoever they fancied at gatherings.
Regardless, they would always maintain their good public image.
That was why prudent and well-known people who cared about appearances, such as Nicole, would aim for marriage if they were to pursue someone. She would not lose anything if she were to marry someone as young and promising as Cayden.
In all honesty, Dylan was willing to make it happen.
There was just one question that stumped him, and he voiced it out loud, “What's so great about Cayden anyway? Everyone wants to be with him.”
Cayden never lacked pursuers from all genders, but only a few of them actually took action.
For starters, Cayden was a living, breathing person, not a puppet—no one could control him.
If he did not like someone, he would see that person as nothing but garbage no matter how hard the person tried to butter him up.
Secondly, even if one wanted to pursue him, most people did not have the chance to come into contact with him.
Moreover, lots of self-confidence was needed before contact could even be made.
For example, Nicole's self-confidence came from her looks, and she had her family background to thank for her status. In the whole of Ackleton, how many girls had William as their father?
Nicole was the only one.
Sitting opposite the man, Nicole thought about how she should answer him. After a moment of contemplation, she longingly said, “Well, there's a quote from a song that goes 'Though a person's good qualities are hard to describe, the person is still one of a kind.’”
Clutching the cutleries in his hands while disgusted by Nicole's cheesy statement, Dylan bobbed his head. “I see. He really has you smitten. Keep that up. If you can't get him, I'll be sure to look down on you.”
Nicole appeared poised on the outside, but she was undoubtedly a scheming individual. Dylan could tell that was a fact just from looking at her.
When she was only ten years old, she was able to stand out among a number of orphans and was brought home by Claire and William. Dylan was adamant that the girl must have schemed her way to her current position.
Reality had proven that she had done well during her years in the Lambert family. She had gained everyone's favor, studied hard, mastered different skills, and did everything she could before finally becoming a big celebrity. At the moment, in order to reach the pinnacle of her life, she was now aiming to obtain the capable and youthful Cayden.
No ordinary woman could have done all that if she weren't a cunning person.
“I can't really help you with that, but I can tell you what he likes and hates since I've known him since I was little.”
Dylan then spoke at length about everything he knew.
In spite of saying he could not really help her, Dylan was determined to give Nicole his full support.
If Nicole is able to get with Cayden, then Avery will become an abandoned woman! She will become a woman who is abandoned by Cayden Moore! By then, I will definitely accept her.
