Talia's weeping turned into sobbing at her husband's admonishment.
After bawling for quite a while, Talia shot a glare at Toby. “Now, it's my fault for not teaching our son well? What were you doing back then? All you ever did was earn money. You either didn't come back at night or went on business trips every day. You left Dylan all to me. Aren't you aware of his character? Do you think I can control him?”
“I only did it because I needed to support this family. You didn't have a job, and if I didn't work hard under that circumstance, who was going to put food on the table for you and Dylan?” Toby retorted.
I've spent all these years working so hard for this family. I never thought my devotion would be the root of her frustration. How can I not be angry at her ingratitude?
His parents' quarrel had woken Dylan up.
Looking at the irk in his parents' eyes and their defensive stances that were close to getting them into a physical fight, Dylan felt his headache throb painfully.
“All right. Stop fighting! Can't you let me get some rest?” Dylan said vexedly.
I have never had a memory of my parents not fighting ever since I can perceive my surroundings. Their fights would sometimes be minor such as smashing a vase. Occasionally, they would turn violet till parts of our home were destroyed. At times, they even attacked each other. Moreover, as they grew older, not only did their fights not lessen, but they even seemed to get worse. That was one of the reasons why I rather hang out with delinquents than go home. Who would want to listen to their parents fight the minute they get home?
“Are you okay, Dylan? How did you get hurt again? I warned you multiple times not to cause trouble. Look at yourself! You're already this badly hurt, and it hadn't even been that long since you were released. Do you know the pain I feel, looking at you getting hurt?” Talia began wiping the tears streaking down her cheek as she spoke.
Toby merely sighed and glared at Dylan with a disappointed look. He wanted nothing more than to smack Dylan to death so that his son could stop causing trouble for him and society.
However, he shook his head to dash out his thoughts. I can only think about doing that and not actually hitting him in real life. I can't just leave him to fend for himself.
Talia's crying was aggravating Dylan. “Enough, Mom! I won't get into another fight again. Stop crying!” he exclaimed.
Dissatisfaction and ruthlessness filled his eyes as he recalled Cayden's vicious punches.
I'll make sure to make Cayden pay for what he did sooner or later. I've never been beaten to such a wretched state before. I was the one calling the shots even when in prison. It has always been me at the end of bullying and not the other way around.
“Tell me truthfully, Dylan. Which b*stard hurt you? I'll definitely seek justice for you!” Talia promised harshly.
Dylan hadn't wanted to tell them the truth because he didn't want them worried.
However, an idea came to Dylan's mind at the thought of Cayden's relationship with his family. “Who else? It's none other than Cayden. Mom, you have no idea how shameless Cayden can be. Avery is my wife, but he's staked his claim on her. Not only did he cuckold me, but I couldn't even do what a husband does with his wife. I just wanted to sleep with my wife, yet Cayden crashed through the door and carried her away. He even pounded me to this extent. Have you ever seen a more shameless cousin like him?”
“What? Cayden punched you? No way! Even though he usually keeps to himself, I know him to be mature and well-mannered. Is there a misunderstanding?” Toby didn't believe Dylan's accusations and started to defend Cayden.
Even though my sister is not reliable, Cayden is an excellent child. I don't believe he will do something that absurd.
Anger rolled through Dylan at Toby's words. “Am I your son, or is Cayden your son? Do you trust him so much? How can I lie to you when he's injured me to such a sorry state? Didn't you see it for yourself? His relationship with Avery is ambiguous. I won't say anything if Avery and I are divorced, but the point is, we're not even divorced yet, and she's already cheated on me with Cayden! Dad, why don't you ask Aunt Allie to keep Cayden in check? I'm sure you won't want Cayden to be the father to your grandchildren. Am I right?”
Talia continued to wipe her tears away. The rims of her eyes were red from crying too much. “See? Like mother, like son! Not only is your sister unreasonable, but even your nephew is a player! With his identity and status, he could have had any woman he wanted. Yet, he chose to get entangled with his cousin-in-law. This is immoral! You and the whole Musk family are the same! I must have been jinxed to marry into such a family.”
Talia had always looked down on her vain sister-in-law. However, it was a fact that Allie had only managed to squeeze herself into a wealthy family through her own vixen tendencies and became the mistress of the Moore family.
Even though Allie's name had been slandered, she had a capable son.
Hence, Allie currently led a pampered life.
Talia despised and scorned women like Allie, yet she couldn't help but admit she was slightly envious of the latter.
She was envious that a woman like Allie could become the mistress of a wealthy family and have an outstanding son. On top of that, Allie also had two obedient grandchildren.
Yet, that loathsome sister-in-law's perfect son finally had a flaw. He fell in love with a married woman.
This gave Talia an excuse to attack Allie.
No matter how outstanding Allie's son is, he still wants my son's leftovers.
Toby felt a knot in his chest at his wife's and son's remarks. His rage flared at the thought of Avery, who cheated on Dylan with Cayden. “Dylan, what's so good about that woman with an easy virtue? She's a wh*re! Just divorce her! Why do you insist on staying with her?”
Dylan met Toby's gaze stubbornly. “No matter what kind of person she is, she's the only wife I'll have. I don't want anyone else. Help me think of a way to make her stay if you want grandchildren. Otherwise, don't even think about having a grandchild,” he said with a threatening tone.
“Y-You b*stard!” Toby reached for a pillow within his grasp in anger. He was about to fling it at Dylan when he caught sight of the injuries covering Dylan's body. Instantly, he kept his rage in check and let out a sigh. “Call Allie to the hospital. I'll have her discipline her son!”
The phone on the desk rang, cutting through the silence. Cayden stubbed his cigarette against the ashtray before he took the call.
“Hello?”
“How are you, Mr. Moore? What made you remember your old friend?” The voice that came from the other end was pleasant. It was an indistinguishable voice.
Cayden got up from his chair and stood by the window wall in his office. As his gaze overlooked the massive city, the corners of his lips quirked into a grin. “There's someone I want from you, Mr. Gibson. My woman's friend is in your brother's hands. Consider this a favor from me. The next dinner will be on me.”
The other end paused briefly. With a casual tone laced with a tad of curiosity, Mr. Gibson asked, “Your woman? Since when did Mr. Moore have a woman?”
Cayden chuckled. “My kitten is under duress lately. She has quite a temper on her. I'll bring her out after I've tamed her.”
Silence followed as though Mr. Gibson didn't know what to make of Cayden's answer.
Soon, a burst of laughter filled Cayden's ear. “That'll do. I'll give Aaron a call.”
The call disconnected after that.
Cayden's gentle gaze was focused on the traffic outside the window. There was a tinge of coolness in the slight curve of his lips.
My kitten has gotten angry. How should I coax her?
