The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 308

Cayden was unfazed by Dylan's words.

However, he seemed to have tightened his grip around his glass. “You can try. It looks like you haven't learned a thing after five years of imprisonment.”

Dylan's facial expression darkened.

He knew the evidence on the table was sufficient to let him spend the rest of his life in jail, prompting uncontrollable rage to fill his eyes.

“Cayden, how innocent do you think you are? I reckon there are plenty of underhanded dealings done by Trident Group, and there's no way you can safeguard yourself from the mess. Do you think I don't know you manipulated the share market in the past and disrupted the average market price, causing Ackleton to suffer an economic crisis? Through this scheme, you acquired a large amount of profit. Do you simply assume you can hide your wrongdoings forever? What consequences do you think you'll face if I find all the evidence related to Trident Group's crimes?”

Any company, regardless of size, had its dark secrets, not to mention a famous multinational corporation like Trident Group. Once these secrets were revealed, one could easily imagine Cayden's ultimate, terrible fate.

Cayden's emotionless eyes glinted coldly. “You can attempt to do that if you have the capabilities.”

If Trident Group's secrets were so easily identified, the international corporation wouldn't have existed.

Trident Group distributed a large amount of money to fund their respective departments' operations annually. If there were any illegal business practices, the higher-ups would merely turn a blind eye even if they were in the know. Cayden thought Dylan was extremely naive to threaten him with that matter. To think that Dylan has just been released from prison. I guess the only thing about him that increased all these years is his age, not his intelligence.

While the two men engaged in a staring contest, the music in the café had unknowingly stopped playing.

Their silent confrontation was all that filled the atmosphere.

Cayden tidied his expensive suit leisurely. Appearing elegant and composed, he got to his feet and strode toward the exit.

Before he stepped out of the café, he said in his mellow and deep voice, “Dylan, you can choose to expose your marriage with Avery, but I will submit the evidence of you kidnapping Old Mr. Rumpley to the authorities. I'll let the public know how your marriage with Avery came to be. Besides, you've committed plenty of unlawful acts all these years. Once confirmed, any of your offenses could get you sentenced to punishments. If you go into jail again, you won't be as lucky as being released after five years. This time, I'll ensure you stay in there for the rest of your life! So what if everyone knows Avery's married? I don't care about her status or others' objections. I will still cherish and marry her. I think you should understand my personality well, so you must know that I will accomplish what I want to do. That's all I have to say. If you wish to repeat your foolish errors, don't blame me for being unmerciful.”

Great emotions churned within Dylan's chest following Cayden's departure.

He ripped the evidence on the table into pieces in a fury and booted the exquisite wooden table.

Pandemonium reigned in his head.

Should I hang in there, or should I give up? If I remain determined, what awaits me may be a lifetime of imprisonment, but if I let go of her now, I'll be giving up the marriage I secured through schemes with much difficulty. How can I ever accept this outcome willingly?

Meanwhile, Nicole was enjoying a cup of coffee at Silvia's place.

Since the last time she noticed the similarity in temperament and appearance between Avery and Claire, Silvia had immediately requested Nicole to ask Claire about the latter's biological daughter.

She did not meet up with Claire right away because she didn't want to invoke the pain that Claire had been carrying for so many years.

If her assumption of Avery being Claire's daughter was merely a misunderstanding, mentioning that matter would undoubtedly cause Claire to suffer from agony again.

As Claire's best friend, no one knew better than Silvia the anguish that tormented Claire when she lost her biological daughter.

Before Nicole's adoption, Claire had lived her days in overwhelming anxiety and torture. Her beautiful face had grown more ashen with each passing day, and she had appeared unenergetic and wasted.

She had only regained some vigor slowly after she and William adopted Nicole.

If Claire's biological daughter was still alive, Silvia figured Claire would be the happiest.

Silvia brewed a pot of coffee. She poured a glass and handed it to Nicole.

Nicole received the glass of coffee, took a sip, and thanked Silvia.

Silvia chuckled. “Why are you behaving so courteously toward me, silly? Your mom and I have been friends for decades. Back then...”

Assuming her role as Nicole's elder, Silvia first recounted some of her and Claire's life stories to Nicole. Then, she enquired Nicole how she had been doing lately.

Subsequently, she only shifted the topic of conversation in a seemingly casual manner. “Nickie, have you asked your mom about that matter related to your sister?”

Nicole was drinking her coffee when she heard the question. At that instant, she felt as if a needle had abruptly stung her heart. I thought Mdm. Wright had come to look for me previously and requested me to ask my mom about her biological daughter on a whim. But now, it seems like Mdm. Wright has been intending to locate Mom's biological daughter all along.

Nicole couldn't help but feel a hint of resentment surge within her. Even my mom is not desperate to look for her biological daughter, yet an outsider like Mdm. Wright is working on this matter more diligently than anyone else. She's such a busybody.

Despite her discontentment toward Silvia, Nicole didn't dare to express her genuine feelings in front of her elder. After all, Silvia's husband was a powerful government official, not to mention she came from an influential family. Nicole was still a little wary of Silvia.

She pinched her thigh forcefully, inflicting great pain on herself so that tears brimmed in her reddened eyes. She looked up and said, “Mdm. Wright, I questioned my mom regarding that matter once after you mentioned it the other day. However, Mom kept crying and wept for almost the whole night. She told me that sister of mine was a stillbirth, and her body was taken away before Mom could even see her. Mom also blamed herself for having a weak body. Otherwise, the baby wouldn't have passed away right after delivery.”

Silvia's heart shuddered. At that instant, she felt she had done the right thing by not directly meeting up with Claire. Claire became so dejected at the mention of that child. It seems like she has yet to make peace with the child's decease.

Still, Silvia's intuition was telling her that the child was still alive.

She couldn't explain why she held on to that belief so firmly. At times, a woman's sixth sense was a wonder.

“Nickie, don't speak of this matter again in front of your mom. Your mom still can't get over this grief after so many years. However, I can't shake off the feeling that things are not as simple as they seem. I can't help but think the child is still alive in this world. Perhaps this is just a figment of my imagination,” Silvia said while touching her forehead.
