Still feeling terrible for nearly causing an accident, Avery did not dare to continue driving.
Cayden had alcohol earlier and can't drive while under the influence. However, my driving sucks! I genuinely dare not risk both our lives like that.
Hence, she opened a ride-hailing app, thinking of getting a replacement driver to send them home.
Cayden watched her curiously as she tapped away on her phone.
When he saw her open the ride-hailing app and swiftly enter her phone number, he asked doubtfully, “Are you able to get a replacement driver through an app like that?”
Whenever he needed to get anywhere, he would drive himself or have a driver pick him up. He had never even taken a taxi. Hence, it was no surprise that he was unfamiliar with the various ride-hailing apps.
“Of course! It's very convenient. Here, let me show you. If you want to look for a replacement driver, you'll need to enter your contact number. After that, there's this...” She shot him a smile as she explained patiently, revealing her pearly white teeth.
Cayden's eyes lit up with a tender glow as he listened to her melodious voice that was like music to his ears.
After about ten minutes, their replacement driver arrived. He was a bespectacled man of medium build and was around thirty-five or thirty-six years old.
With nearly ten years of driving experience, he drove skillfully and smoothly. It only took him a little more than thirty minutes to send Avery and Cayden safely to their destination.
Upon returning home, Avery went to the bathroom to wash up.
Cayden waited until the bathroom door closed before furrowing his brows, a look of pain flashing across his handsome face.
As he shrugged off his coat and made his way to the study, he could not refrain from pressing down on his left arm.
He only applied a little force, yet he felt a stabbing pain in his arm.
Rolling up his sleeve, Cayden looked down at his arm and saw a deep gash. Crimson blood still oozed from the wound from time to time.
He found a medical kit in the cabinet, rummaged around for the antiseptic, and proceeded to use it to disinfect the wound.
After that, he applied some medicine that would help relieve the pain before bandaging the injured part of his arm with white gauze.
His movements were deft, almost as though he had tended to such injuries over a thousand times.
Once he had done all that, Cayden quietly returned the medical kit to its original spot and took a quick shower in one of the other bathrooms. Then, he changed into his pajamas, returned to the bedroom, and lay on the plush bed.
Since Jeffrey missed his great-grandchildren, his driver had come to bring Zachary and Rory to the Moore residence.
Since Jeffrey missed his great-grandchildren, his driver had come to bring Zachary and Rory to the Moore residence.
As such, Cayden and Avery were all alone in the mansion.
Leaning against the headboard, Cayden reached for the financial paper on the bookshelf beside the bed and started reading it.
Avery walked into the bedroom about twenty minutes later with her long, partially damp hair hanging loose down her back.
Seeing him engrossed in reading the newspaper, she approached him without making any sound before throwing herself into his arms.
Cayden could not help but let out a low grunt of pain when she bumped into the wound he had cleaned up and bandaged just moments earlier.
Hearing that, Avery pushed back the sleeve of his pajamas at once and saw the blood-stained bandages around his arm.
She stared at him in shock. “Y-You're hurt? What happened? Why didn't you tell me?”
However, he merely pulled down his sleeve and replied calmly, “I'm fine. It's only a scratch. I've already tended to it, so you don't need to make a big deal out of it.”
Avery recalled how he had moved in front of her just as they were about to hit the car and shielded her with his arms and body.
However, she could not remember what he had knocked into that would have caused such an injury. She could only say guiltily, “You're not to do something like that ever again. I'll protect myself. Do you know that if you end up injured, I'll be more upset than if I were to get hurt myself?”
Cayden kissed her tear-filled eyes. “You're my woman, and protecting you is my responsibility.”
With that, he pulled her close and kissed her forcefully.
She wanted to struggle and break free. However, she was worried about bumping against his wound again. In the end, she had no choice but to let him hold her tightly.
With the sound of his steady and powerful heartbeat in her ears, she fell under the charm of his sweet and tender kiss.
Her clothes were removed at some point, and his muscular body pressed against her soft and delicate frame.
Since they had done it many times before and were familiar with each other's bodies, Cayden did not waste any time getting down to business.
Although Avery avoided his injured arm, she could not help saying, “Your wound—”
“Relax. I'm fine,” Cayden murmured in a husky voice as he gently nibbled on her earlobe, leaving her with no strength to respond.
He gazed at her, whose cheeks were flushed, then whispered next to her ear, “You don't have to worry about that matter involving Nina. It'll be quite tricky to deal with it. But since you've come to me for help, I'll definitely do what I can.”
Avery was momentarily stunned. However, she quickly understood what he meant and responded to his touch even more eagerly.
A heavy scent filled the room, and the temperature gradually rose. Even the air in the room seemed as though it would burst into flames from their passion.
It was a beautiful night for the couple.
Over at the Musk residence, Talia kept tugging at Maria's hand and saying warmly, “Look, it's so late already. Why don't you stay the night at my place? I'll call your mom later to let her know you're staying here tonight.”
I'm rather pleased with this distant niece of mine who's simply brimming with youthful energy. Maria is from a good family. On top of that, she studied abroad in Anglandur, taking business administration at one of the universities there. She may be slightly arrogant and willful, but I think a lady should have such little quirks. It's fine as long as she doesn't take it too far.
Talia had always hoped for a union between the Musks and the Reids through marriage.
She had given up on that hope after Talia migrated overseas previously, but now that the latter had returned, that desire started burning again.
The Reid family is powerful and affluent. Not only will the marriage bring our two families closer, but it'll also greatly benefit Musk Group. Who knows? Maria might even be capable of keeping my unrestrained son in check. Because of Avery, Dylan's life is now a living hell. And as if that wasn't enough, Cayden wanted to force Dylan to divorce Avery as soon as possible. Hence, he abandoned all familial ties between the Moore family and the Musk family and nearly caused our company to go bankrupt! Although Cayden did stop his onslaught later, Musk Group was already almost destroyed. Now, there's only a shell of a company left.
The wheels in Talia's head started spinning.
She could tell that Maria had feelings for Dylan, and she dearly wanted the Musk family and the Reid family to be joined by marriage. That way, she would be able to save Musk Group.
Secretly rejoicing, Maria opened her rosebud mouth and answered smoothly, “Thank you, Aunt Talia. I'll stay the night, then. I was very close to you before I went abroad. We haven't met in years, and I've missed you. I should stay longer and spend a few days with you.”
He gazed at her, whose cheeks were flushed, then whispered next to her ear, “You don't have to worry about that matter involving Nina. It'll be quite tricky to deal with it. But since you've come to me for help, I'll definitely do what I can.”
