At the Gibson residence, Cayden was sitting on the couch as he wrapped his left arm around the silent Avery while fidgeting with the crystal clear wine glass with his right hand. He looked like he had all the time in his life.
Under the setting sun, the crimson liquid only accentuated the fairness of the man's smooth hands.
Xander was an oenophile, and he loved red wine best. Hence, it was his hobby to search for all kinds of red wines from across the globe.
Recently, he had gotten a box of high-quality red wine from his duke friend from Ustrana. Therefore, he invited his good friends, including Cayden and Yuvan, over to try the wine.
While Xander was a lover of wine, Cayden was not, for he felt that alcohol impeded the speed of his thinking.
Nevertheless, he was there at the Gibsons' place because they had a long-standing friendship.
As they were going to be drinking, the two children had been sent to the Moore residence; only he and Avery had come to the Gibson residence.
Yuvan was sitting on the other couch, and when he turned to the side, he saw Cayden putting down his glass to start peeling grapes for Avery.
Then, Cayden slowly fed the peeled grapes to Avery. Avery seemed to feel awkward at his actions, but her protests were to no avail.
His public display of affection stunned Yuvan. In fact, Yuvan found it terrifying.
Is he really the devil of the corporate world, Cayden Moore?
Yuvan smacked his lips and teased, “You're really glued to Avery's side now. Avery, do you have any sisters? I'd like to find a girlfriend of your style, so why don't you introduce me to your sisters?”
Before Avery could say anything, Cayden fed her another grape as he nonchalantly smiled. “Give up on that thought of yours. Avery doesn't have any sisters. There's only one of her in this world. Oh, but she does have a stepsister. I think her name's Milana. Though, she's currently serving her time in jail. If you're interested, feel free to go there to look for her.”
Avery laughed while Yuvan fumed away.
Seriously? Are these words that a good friend should say to me? Not only has Cayden never introduced me to any women, but the one woman he's introducing to me now is a criminal! This is outrageous!
In the next second, Yuvan turned to cast pitiful eyes at Avery. “Avery, is it really a good thing that Cayden's bullying me every time? Why don't you introduce me to someone?”
Avery merely blinked at him. “Um... Most of the nice girls around me are either married or have boyfriends. I'll definitely introduce you to someone if I ever meet a nice lady.”
Right then, Avery thought about Nina.
Nina is kind and determined, and she's easygoing as well. She's a good woman. On the other hand, Yuvan is funny and a good doctor. He's a rather good man as well. Them being a pair seems like a fine idea. Moreover, Nina's in poor health. If Yuvan is her boyfriend, he'll be able to treat her.
However, Avery hesitated because Nina had gone through terrible times. Her aversion to men was obvious; if she were to introduce them to each other now, things would backfire.
Thus, Avery decided to speak nothing of Nina for the moment.
Meanwhile, Xander was sitting on the massage chair as he elegantly sipped on his red wine. His beautiful face was as feminine as always.
However, he sounded more apathetic as he said, “You're a doctor who graduated from Horington University, but you still can't find a girlfriend? Won't others laugh at you if they hear about it? You better learn some pick-up skills from Cayden, and maybe you'll be able to find someone next year. Maybe you'll even have triplets!”
Yuvan pursed his lips, speechless.
I'd rather learn flirting techniques from the internet than have Cayden teach me how to pick up girls. After all, Cayden's always icy and stoic before meeting Avery.
Indeed, even though Cayden had a face with noble and gentle features, the way he carried himself told everyone else to keep a distance from him, and that included women.
Cayden then poured a glass of red wine for Avery and brought it to her. In a solemn tone, he explained, “This wine is made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine itself has a hint of purple, and it looks beautiful. Of course, it tastes rather good as well. Take a whiff.”
Avery did as he said. Even though she did not know much about appreciating wine, the scent of it made her sure that the wine would be smooth. She could smell a heavy scent of fruits in it, as if the wine had a blend of mulberry, cherry, candied fruit, and vanilla.
It was a delight.
Thus, she sincerely praised, “This wine does seem wonderful. Just a whiff and I can already taste it on my tongue!”
Generously, Xander said, “You can take two bottles with you if you like it, Avery.”
Yuvan clicked his tongue before turning to Xander. He then gloomily said, “Say, Xander, aren't you too biased? I was asking for a bottle from you yesterday, but you refused to spare me one. In contrast, you're so generous with Avery. Ha! Now I know what this is. We're only friends for show!”
Xander rolled his eyes at Yuvan. “Feel free to take any bottle from my place when you get a wife.”
Yuvan buried his face in his hands.
Of all the things he could have said! If I have a freaking wife, will I still be this miserably lonely?
He then retorted, “Stop taking a jab at me. Aren't you single too? At least, I used to be in a few relationships. You, on the other hand... You don't even have any women around you. Even the bugs around you are probably male at this rate!”
Xander shot him a glare and fell silent.
The recollecting of his memories brought a flash of pain onto Xander's face, but Xander soon schooled his features to a neutral look again.
Cayden only smiled and stayed quiet.
Others might not know about Xander's past, but Cayden knew bits of it. Xander's first crush still had a spot in his heart, and it was a forbidden spot that he would never allow anyone to go close to.
Cayden, who was on the couch, looked dashing. A sharp glint was in his dark eyes, and even the way he drank his wine radiated a sense of graceful aggression to others.
However, when he leaned over to whisper into Avery's ears, his expression would soften into a loving look. It made the other two single men wistfully think, Love is magical.
Right as they were chatting away, the Gibson family's butler hurried over.
After the butler whispered something to Xander, Xander's face paled. In the next moment, he said to Cayden and Avery, “Something has happened to my younger brother, so I'll need to deal with that first. Please make yourself home here.”
With that said, Xander rushed away with Yuvan to the other mansion where Aaron's room was.
Avery tugged Cayden's sleeve and asked, “What happened to Aaron? Wasn't he in a car accident two months ago?”
There was stewing hatred in Avery for Aaron, for that man had hurt her best friend, Nina.
Avery knew that Aaron had been in a car accident two months ago. The car had been wrecked, but the man survived with a broken leg.
Avery had been enraptured to hear the news back then.
She was certain that karma was finally doing its job in bringing punishment to evil. She even thought about how she did not need Cayden's help in the matter.
Right then, Cayden kissed Avery's pink lips and nonchalantly muttered to her, “I was the one who orchestrated the car accident Aaron was in two months ago. Not only did he break his leg, but he can't even have sex anymore. How is it? Is this good enough for your friend's revenge?”
