Once Avery got into her seat, Yvette scanned the crowd and said sternly, “The renovation project has officially started. I hope everyone can do their jobs well. Not only that, please learn to work as a team. No one is allowed to do any funny business under my watch. You'll be removed from the team the moment you're caught.”
“Understood.” Everyone nodded while a hint of disdain fleeted across Yulissa's face.
Right before the workday came to an end, Yvette informed everyone that Trident Group and Vivi Group would have a meeting with the shareholders the next day. The agenda would focus on the renovation project and personal work progresses. With that, she reminded them about how the meeting differed from the usual ones, for the attendees were the higher-ups of two major corporations, including the CEO of Trident Group and the chairperson of Vivi Group.
Avery felt tremendous stress on her shoulders when she finished listening to Yvette's words.
The higher-ups of both companies will be present. Will I be able to hold up?
At first, Avery wanted to stay back at the company to prepare the materials needed for the next day's meeting. However, Yvette said they should welcome the new members that joined the project group. Since the group had not had a gathering ever since the start of the project, she invited everyone to Azure Royal for a meal and a karaoke session so everyone could interact more with each other.
“Let's go! We're having dinner at Azure Royal tonight. No doubt we'll have good food. My baby and I can replenish our nutrients there,” muttered Cecelia as she packed her documents.
Casting Cecelia a glance, Nina advised plainly, “Cecelia, don't you read the news? Some pregnant women began eating whatever they wanted when they got pregnant, which resulted in over nourishment. Their babies were so giant-sized that they could only give birth through a C-section. You mustn't be over-nourished, you know?”
“Huh? That can't be real, right?” Cecelia was shocked.
Her appetite had been exceptionally great ever since she became pregnant, and she had not really been controlling her food intake.
Rolling her eyes, Nina said, “Of course. When have I ever lied to you?”
“Oh, man. Looks like I really have to control myself from now on,” Cecelia whined while caressing her belly. Pouting, she said to her abdomen, “My dear baby, look how much I have to go through for you. I even have to control my food intake because of you. This is such torture...”
Avery and Nina could not help but exchange glances and chuckle when they saw Cecelia's comical reaction.
It was especially relatable for Avery, who smiled gently as she caressed her belly discreetly, even though it still looked flat.
Noting Avery was in a daze, Nina tickled her with a cheeky smile and made a guess. “Hey, Ery. I realized you keep getting distracted lately and even have that weird, blissful smile on your face. Tell me. Is your wedding with Mr. Moore coming soon?”
Avery shut her laptop and responded, “You think too much nonsense. Let's go. The members of Vivi Group are already on their way.”
Even Cecelia was joining the dinner this time. Naturally, Avery could not bear to excuse herself.
Given no choice, she sent Cayden a text that read: Don't wait for me tonight. I'm having dinner with my colleagues at Azure Royal, so I'll go home a little later. Go home first, okay? I'll take a cab home when dinner's over.
Cayden knew that dinners with colleagues were indispensable. Moreover, he knew Yvette's character well. Those two reasons, combined with the fact that Azure Royal was Xander's territory, made it so that he did not worry much. Instead, he only reminded Avery to not take any alcohol. He also told her to send him a text when she wanted to head home so he could pick her up.
With that, Avery, Yvette, and the others headed out.
Just as they were passing by the restroom, Yulissa suddenly clutched her belly and said, “Ah, my stomach hurts. I'm sorry, Ms. Fetterman. Please go ahead. I'm going to the restroom for a while.”
Glancing at Yulissa, Yvette said, “Be quick.”
“I know where Azure Royal is. Why don't you guys go ahead? Just let me know the number of the private room once you're there. I'll head over and look for you guys when I'm done here.”
After giving it some thought, Yvette agreed, “That works too. We'll get going first, then. Don't take too long, okay?”
“Okay.”
Yulissa's eyes darkened with a scheming gaze as she watched the others leave happily, especially when she looked at Avery's slender back.
It was not Avery's first visit to Azure Royal. Yet, she was still amazed by the unique design every time she came.
The atmosphere of the dinner was great.
At first, everyone was a little uneasy since Yvette was around.
However, Yvette was a completely different person when she had gotten off work. Outside of work, she was warm and kind; she even told everyone jokes. She was eloquent and humorous, like a wise elder sister. That was Avery's first time seeing this other side of Yvette.
Another person that left a strong impression on everyone during that dinner was Armand. He loved telling jokes, which made everyone burst out laughing on the spot.
Regardless, the way he fixed his burning gaze on Avery during the entire dinner made her feel extremely uneasy.
When the dinner was over, Yvette suggested they go for karaoke.
Food and accommodation were not the only things Azure Royal provided. It also had entertainment facilities on the eighth floor. Thus, everyone went straight to the floor without wasting any time traveling to another location.
As many people had attended the dinner that night, it was a good thing the karaoke room was large.
Meanwhile, Yvette hung out in the private room for some time and told the others to enjoy themselves before taking her leave.
Trevor, Michael, Armand, and the other men got into a drinking contest while Madeline held the microphone and sang passionately. Sadly, she had no talent for singing and was completely out of tune, which made everyone feel awkward. Only Gabriel kept cheering for her.
Cecelia and Nina, however, did not care. They simply cupped their hands over their mouth and snickered.
Bored out of her mind, Avery sat on the couch and chewed the fruits mindlessly as she chatted with the duo.
Just then, Armand walked over and took the empty seat beside Avery. With his attractive, Ustranasion accent, he said, “Hi, nice to meet you. Please forgive me for overstepping my boundaries, but do you currently have a boyfriend?”
Avery calmly scooted nearer to Cecelia. “Yes, I do.”
A look of disappointment appeared on Armand's face, and he slumped his shoulders dejectedly. “Oh, what a pity. I thought I had met the goddess of my life. I never expected you'd be taken. But that's okay. Are you two already married, by the way?”
“Not yet, but we will be soon. My boyfriend's planning the wedding already.”
Armand's disappointed expression was instantly replaced with delight. “You're not married yet? That means I can still pursue you. After all, isn't there a saying in Chanaea that a beautiful woman is a fine match for a gentleman? That's it. I've decided to pursue you from now on.”
Avery was utterly speechless.
Truth be told, she had never encountered such a shameless man who seemed so gentlemanly on the outside. Why can't he sense the rejection in my words?
