“Mr. Hayward told me that Mommy already has a boyfriend, so it's impossible for her and Daddy to get together,” Zachary said.
Rory nodded even though she didn't really understand what was going on.
“In that case, we should help Daddy find a girlfriend. I think Ms. Ery would suit him perfectly,” Zachary continued.
I was wrong about Daddy abandoning Mommy. It was Mommy who found herself a new boyfriend...
When it was time for breakfast, Allie could be seen coming down the stairs with exquisite makeup on.
“Hey, Dad. There's something I need to take care of, so I'll be heading out for a bit,” she said while walking past the dining table.
Jeffrey was about to tell her to go ahead when Lily arched an eyebrow and cut him off. “You look like you spent an hour dolling yourself up! Are you going on a date or something?”
Judging by the unpleasant look on Jeffrey's face, it became obvious that he was the only person bothered by their banter.
“Don't worry, Lily. Unlike you, I'm not desperate enough to go seducing men out of loneliness. Bruce may have passed early, but I won't let him down,” Allie replied calmly.
Lily slammed her fork down on the table and turned to glare at her. “Who are you calling desperate?”
Had it not been for the housekeeper holding her back, Lily would've thrown herself at Allie on the spot.
“You disgusting b*tch! I wouldn't have ended up in this position if you hadn't seduced my husband back then! Seeing you so early in the morning makes me want to puke!” Lily shouted angrily while jabbing a finger at her.
Noticing that Jeffrey was about to lose his temper, Allie stopped arguing and strutted out of the mansion with her limited-edition handbag.
Lily got so mad that she had difficulty breathing, so the housekeeper quickly brought her to her room upstairs.
With a frown on his face, Kendrick instructed the butler, “Get a doctor to take a look at my mom.”
Allie had only gotten a little over three hours of sleep the previous night.
Standing by the bedroom window, she overheard Zachary and Rory's conversation in the garden below.
They're planning on asking Cayden about their mother's whereabouts, huh? Their mother sure is a mysterious one... Even Jeffrey doesn't have any information on her despite being the head of the family at the time. Grover and Lindsay have kept a pretty tight lid on it too. We'd tried sounding them out and even offered to pay them off, but nothing ever seemed to work.
With that in mind, Allie waited until no one was around and asked the kids about it before leaving the house.
“Daddy only told me that Mommy is still alive. I tried asking him for more information, but he told me not to push my luck,” Zachary replied.
Cayden had a hot temper, so it made perfect sense that the kids wouldn't dare question him any further.
Who on earth gave birth to Zach and Rory? Was it Cayden's woman, or some other girlfriend that I don't even know of? Heck, it could even be a secret deal of some sort! Regardless, there must be a clue about her that I can find. Honestly, why would he even keep such a secret from me? For people in wealthy families, having a child is equal to having an heir! I'm surprised this woman hasn't tried to marry into this household yet! Being a woman myself, I know for a fact that no woman could possibly resist the temptation of being married into a wealthy family!
Allie made a phone call while she was in the car, and it got through fairly quickly.
“I'm almost there. You'd better not try anything funny, Leonardo! I won't let you off the hook this time, so don't force my hand!” she said coldly while staring at the scenery outside the window.
Meanwhile, Avery was cooking some pasta in the kitchen.
She put in some broccoli and some scrambled eggs and added the sauce in the final step.
Nina was already waiting at the dining table after washing up.
Unbeknownst to Avery, her phone had been vibrating quite a few times while she was in the kitchen.
As the two of them were working adults, it wasn't uncommon for them to get calls from their colleagues or bosses all the time. Noticing the name “Noelle” on the screen, Nina was about to tell Avery about it when the incoming message caught her attention.
Noelle's text message read: Hey, Ery! Do you want the voice recording of Zayne's intimate conversation with that woman? It might come in handy when you break up with him later.
Nina felt her blood boil after reading that.
How is this possible?
She quickly unlocked Avery's phone and sent a reply: Yes, please send it over!
Noelle then sent a voice recording over, and Nina could clearly hear the full conversation between Zayne and Milana.
Not only has Zayne cheated on Avery, but he even got Milana pregnant... What the f*ck?
Furious at what her brother had done, Nina gave him a call and shouted angrily, “What the heck is wrong with you? You just couldn't keep your d*ck to yourself, huh? Well, guess what? You and Milana sure make a great couple, since you're both filthy pieces of sh*t! Don't worry, though. I'm sure you'll both catch some nasty STDs and die together!”
Avery came running out of the kitchen the moment she heard the loud voice of Nina. “What happened, Nina? Who were you arguing with so early in the morning?”
Nina hung up the phone and shook her head. “It's nothing. I was just using your phone to give someone a piece of my mind, that's all.”
Avery tried checking her call history after breakfast, but she couldn't find anything, as Nina had already deleted it. She then decided to forget about it and headed out for work.
Since Nina would be visiting a site with the head of the department, Avery was unable to hitch a ride and had to take the subway to work instead.
She entered the coach absentmindedly, as she kept thinking about the earlier incident.
Nina sure was acting really strange earlier. She sounded like she was cursing at a guy for cheating on her. Did she enter a relationship and get cheated on too? That poor girl...
Avery let out a sigh at the thought of that.
The train was a little packed at the time. A middle-aged man had been slowly making his way toward Avery, but she didn't think much about it, as there wasn't much space to move about. However, she realized something was amiss when he grabbed the handle she was holding on to even though there were other handles nearby.
Avery shot the pervert a glance and tried to pull away from him, but he simply continued moving closer toward her.
Right when she had run out of space, she felt a familiar firm grip around her waist.
Lowering her head, she noticed a good-looking hand on her waist. The next thing Avery knew, she was pulled off balance and fell into a man's arms.
“Honey, are you still mad at me?” Cayden said in a seductive, deep voice.
The pervert quickly froze in his tracks when he saw the protective and muscular Cayden holding her tightly and affectionately.
He looked up at Cayden upon hearing him call Avery “Honey,” only to go pale when he met Cayden's icy cold gaze. He was so intimidated that he quickly squeezed his way out of there and disappeared behind the crowd in seconds.
Huh? Cayden is taking the subway? What the heck is going on here?
Although Avery felt incredibly safe in his embrace, she felt a little awkward because the constant shaking of the train caused her to rub against him a lot.
