Chapter 564 The Boss Is Probably A Hooligan
Of course, the showdown between the two boys attracted the attention of the adults. They were amused and delighted to see what was about to happen.
Even Cayden and Avery stopped to watch the spectacle with the others.
Soon, the boys got embroiled in a fight in the green meadow.
Zachary had a solid foundation in combat skills. His every punch and kick was full of vigor and vitality. It was easy to tell that it was not merely fancy footwork. In comparison, Seamus' foundation was slightly inferior. Then again, he frequently fought with others and thus had more experience in actual combat. Coupled with how merciless and brutal he was with his moves, it was tough to decide on the outcome in an instant.
But one thing for sure was that the boys would most likely only suffer more injuries if they were to go on fighting as they wished.
“Stop fighting. You guys will hurt yourselves. Zach, Seamus, stop now...” Avery initially treated it as a joke and thought the kids were bantering with each other. Now that she saw how they fought, she could not help but be shocked and thus wanted to pull them apart.
However, Cayden stopped her. He was rather excited watching the battle between the two boys.
The two boys had never liked each other. Zachary had vouched to teach Seamus a lesson as he was annoyed at how the latter kept pestering Rory. On the other hand, Seamus was full of hatred and resentment toward Zachary for not letting him get near Rory.
The grudge they harbored toward each other seemed to have fueled their urge to fight.
And since their standards were comparable, they felt the need to fight to the bitter end all the more before they would stop.
As Avery and Stephanie exchanged glances, they noticed the worry and heartache in each other's gaze.
Turning around, Avery stared at Cayden beseechingly, signaling him to step in and deal with the boys.
Yet, Cayden patted her shoulders affectionately, seemingly trying to calm her down.
Then, he stepped forward and reached out his hands, and like an eagle catching its prey, he picked the boys up by their collars, one on each hand, and brought them to Avery.
The two boys desperately tried to break free, but because Cayden was yanking their collars, they were choking up and having difficulty breathing. In no time, the two handsome faces turned bright red as they frantically gasped for air.
Nonetheless, they still refused to give up and continued struggling. They glared intently at each other and resentfully swung their limbs in mid-air, gesturing how they still wanted to fight.
Cayden tossed the two boys onto the grass field and threw Seamus a stern glance. In an icy voice, he uttered, “Seamus, if you want to marry my daughter, you'll have to go through Zachary and me as well. If you can't pass the two of us, then don't ever have designs on Rory.”
Cayden's tall and imposing build made Seamus feel that the former resembled an almighty deity, and the boy could not help but feel defeated.
But that emotion was quickly replaced when he saw Zachary chuckling gleefully by the side. Unwilling to accept defeat, Seamus let out a disdainful snort.
Stealthily glancing at Jacob, Seamus saw his father giving him a “keep up the good work” action and signal. He then swept his gaze toward Rory, and seeing how sweet-looking she was while chatting with Cayden, the boy felt a sudden boost and regained his confidence again.
Zachary's daddy is impressive, but my daddy is very cool too! I've seen it with my own eyes. Daddy once defeated three or four armed ruffians with his bare hands to save Ms. Stephanie! I'm Daddy's son. Though I'm still young, I'll become better than him and Rory's daddy someday. I'll make sure Rory becomes my wife in the future!
After dealing with the boys' nonsense, Cayden took Avery for a walk along Turquoise Falls.
The waterfall was vast and majestic, and it was almost impossible to see the other end. The waters along the stream flowed downward and naturally converged into a deep lake at the bottom. Along the lake bloomed all sorts of florals, perfectly complementing the sky-blue waters.
The breathtaking scenery in the surroundings warmed the hearts of the onlookers.
Cayden embraced Avery affectionately as they strolled by the lake.
The man's physical appearance was unrivaled. Despite wearing casual clothes, his distinguished and regal aura was imprinted in the minds of many.
He was carefully showering the pregnant Avery with care, almost like she was a precious gem. It was such a heartwarming sight that anyone who witnessed it would be green with envy.
Many tourists found it rare to spot such a perfect matching couple, and because of that, some whipped out their phones and snapped shots of them in secret.
Holding onto Avery's hand, Cayden led her and continued walking forward. Unbeknownst to them, they had become a mesmerizing view in the eyes of the other tourists.
Not too far behind them, a middle-aged couple had accompanied their daughter out to take a breather.
Gazing at their healthy and lively daughter jumping around, the couple looked at each other, their eyes overflowing with contentment.
Now that her daughter's health had improved, the middle-aged woman could not help but worry over the demolition matter back home again.
She heaved a heavy sigh. “Harvey, how can that demolition team be so outrageous? It's enough that they cut our water and electricity supply, but they even threaten and intimidate us? How is that a demolition team? They're clearly rogues and thugs! They even claimed that their company belongs to a real estate firm under Trident Group, and since they have lots of power and influence, don't blame them for being merciless if we refuse to move! If a small fry is so arrogant, then wouldn't Trident Group's boss be a hooligan?
The middle-aged man had a bald spot on his crown. Having worked all year round without any breaks, he appeared especially old and haggard.
But that emotion was quickly replaced when he saw Zachary chuckling gleefully by the side. Unwilling to accept defeat, Seamus let out a disdainful snort.
In a soft voice, he persuaded, “Honey, don't worry about that. The house belongs to us. If we insist on not demolishing it, what can they do? They can't possibly kill us, can they? We live in a society regulated by law. If they continue to use violence on us, we'll call the cops. I don't believe the cops can't stop them!”
“So what if we call the cops? Officials nowadays shield each other...” The middle-aged woman's loud sigh resonated into the air.
The middle-aged man parted his lips. “We're here to take Sarah out to play. She just managed to escape death on a whisker. If you keep sighing, you'll only affect our daughter's mood. Honey, everything will be all right. If we insist on keeping the house, I'm sure they won't be able to demolish it. But if they decide to resort to violence to demolish our house, we'll make a scene out of it and complain to the public... The media is so much more useful these days compared to the past. But if worse comes to worst, we'll destroy Trident Group's reputation and drag them down with us!”
The middle-aged woman was about to say something when she spotted Cayden and Avery as she lifted her head.
Surprised, she quickly poked her husband's elbow, pointed to Cayden and Avery, and exclaimed, “Hubby, look at that couple. They are our benefactors, aren't they?”
Sarah, who was cheerily skipping away, traced her mother's line of sight upon hearing the latter's words. Thrilled at what she saw, she exclaimed, “Mommy, they are really Mr. Cayden and Ms. Avery! I'll go and say hello to them...”
With that, she happily ran in the direction of Avery and Cayden.
Sure enough, when the middle-aged man lifted his head to look, he saw the couple who saved his daughter's life.
A mix of emotions clouded his weathered face, and together with his wife, they hastily trailed behind their daughter.
While Cayden helped Avery sit down for a rest, a young girl's crisp voice sounded. “Hello, Mr. Cayden and Ms. Avery. I'm Sarah. Do you all still remember who I am?”
At once, Cayden and Avery looked in the direction where the voice sounded from. There, they saw a young girl, seemingly eight or nine years old, dressed in a white baseball uniform and a black hat on her head, staring at them with an excited and expectant gaze.
Cayden drew his brows together. He met countless people daily, and those he interacted with were either rich or influential. Naturally, it was not strange that he barely had any impression of an ordinary girl like Sarah.
On the contrary, Avery had always had a good memory.
As much as she had not met Sarah for more than half a year, she could still recognize the young girl at a glance.
This young girl... She's the one Cayden and I saved after tuning in to the radio broadcast last winter!
