Chapter 643 Claire Defending Her
Maria covered her aching cheek and looked at Dylan in disbelief.
Her eyes were bloodshot as she screamed at the top of her lungs, “How could you hit me? This is the second time! This is the second time you've hit me because of that b*tch!”
Dylan's expression was extremely cold when he said, “Enough is enough. Avery is pregnant now, and you actually pushed her. Do you realize that this could potentially lead to a tragic outcome of two lives lost?”
Maria laughed heartily, far from feeling ashamed of her actions. She then snorted disdainfully and responded, “Even if it results in one corpse and two lives, she deserves it. It's her retribution...”
Avery took a deep breath, trying her best to keep her emotions stable to prevent any emotional turbulence from affecting the baby in her belly. However, when she eventually shot Maria an icy and murderous glare, Maria retreated in fear.
Yet, Maria would never back down. The resentment within her deepened because Dylan defended Avery.
Maria arrogantly raised her hand again, intending to slap Avery once more. However, to her surprise, a slender woman with an exceptional demeanor stepped in front of her, simultaneously catching the hand she was about to strike with.
Maria screamed again, “Who are you?”
The woman before her was clearly one of privilege and refinement, yet surprisingly, she was unexpectedly strong. When the woman twisted Maria's hand, the latter felt as if her hand was about to be wrenched out of its socket.
“Ouch! Let go of me! How dare you? Ah!” Agonizing screams suddenly echoed throughout the restaurant.
Claire's gaze was icy at this moment. “Miss, I don't know who you are to dare cause trouble in my restaurant, but I absolutely won't allow anyone to bully my customers here, especially a pregnant woman. Do you know that deliberately tripping a pregnant woman can lead to premature birth? Do you realize that your action just now was a crime? I have surveillance cameras here, which had recorded all your actions. Mr. Wayne, call the police and have this troublemaker taken away!”
Wayne immediately dialed the police station's number.
After the call connected, he smoothly handed the phone to Claire. “Mrs. Lambert, Chief Lawrence wishes to speak with you personally.”
Claire forcefully shook off Maria's hand, took the phone, and uttered in a frosty tone, “Chief Lawrence, this is Claire Walsh. There's an attempted murder at the restaurant. Send someone over as soon as possible.”
Maria stumbled, lost her balance, and fell to the ground.
She fell and hurt her wrist, and the pain almost brought tears to her eyes.
She didn't know who Claire was when she suddenly appeared. Yet, Claire's assertive words had thrown her into a state of panic. There are surveillance cameras here, and the police will be involved soon. Even if I'm certain that Mom and Dad will bail me out, today is the auspicious day when the Reid and Musk families are discussing engagement. I can't be taken away!
With that in mind, Maria looked at Dylan pitifully and uttered weakly, “Dylan, today is our engagement day. Can you bear to see me taken away? I was just momentarily confused. I won't be so impulsive again. Please save me...”
Dylan glanced at Avery and the tear-streaked face of Maria. Feeling extremely irritated, he said coldly, “You brought this on yourself!”
Due to Claire's personal intervention, the police arrived very quickly.
When Maria was taken away, her mother, Penelope, was informed and rushed out. Like a madwoman, Penelope was hysterically scratching and clawing at the police, obstructing their departure path, and even had the audacity to hurl insults at Claire and Avery.
Upon learning of Claire's identity, however, Penelope received a slap from Derrick. Under her son's meaningful glance, Penelope was terrified, and she went silent. In the end, she could only watch her daughter get taken away.
Just like that, the drama ended.
“Ery, are you okay? Let me take you to the hospital for a check-up.” In the lounge, Claire was still somewhat worried, so she was keen to take Avery to the hospital.
Avery felt touched when she saw the worried look on Claire's face. While holding Claire's hand, Avery consoled her. “Thank you, Mrs. Lambert. I know my own body well. I'm okay.”
Even though Avery knew Claire would defend and protect all the customers in the restaurant the same way, the former was still grateful.
Claire felt a pang of sadness when she saw how sensible her daughter was. How I wish to hold my daughter and comfort her.
Considering their respective identities, Claire hid her inner longing, simply reaching out her hand to Avery's hair affectionately. “If you feel unwell, you must tell me. There's no need to feel inconvenient for me.”
Afterward, Claire chatted with Avery and shared many tips and precautions for pregnant women.
Avery listened with a smile and nodded from time to time. Apart from feeling touched, she also felt joy. No matter how hard I try to pretend otherwise, I know I still yearn for a mother's love.
Meanwhile, in Mocset, a sharp blade sank into the flesh, and the striking sight of fresh blood soaked a table.
Despite the gory scene, Cayden remained unperturbed, as if the blade had only cut into a piece of cold, hard stone.
Inside the room, the air was thick with the scent of blood, and it was so oppressive that it was suffocating.
At the same time, an eerie atmosphere enveloped everyone in the room.
Taron's sharp gaze was fixed on him, observing him without blinking. In Cayden's obsidian-like eyes, there seemed to be no ripples of emotion, yet deep within, they harbored strong and terrifying feelings.
With that in mind, Taron rubbed his chin with both hands and weighed the pros and cons of offending Cayden. This man is truly ruthless. Being ruthless to your enemies doesn't truly define ruthlessness. Real ruthlessness is when you dare to be ruthless to yourself. A man who is both resolute and loyal, willing to ruin his own hand for another, is truly formidable. No wonder Cayden is known as the cold-hearted king of the business world. I want to take Sid down, but I don't want to offend Cayden. This Aplothian man is merciless. If I offend him, the drawbacks far outweigh the benefits.
Just as Taron was about to raise his hand to stop Cayden, Sid couldn't help but shout, “Stop it, Cayden! I'll marry Vivian. Don't hurt yourself anymore!”
After uttering those words, Sid collapsed on the spot. His face went pale as he sank into despair. Yet, he harbored no regrets.
In order to save him, Cayden was willing to have his hand severed.
Sid knew he couldn't let others bear the burden of the sins he himself had committed.
As soon as Sid finished speaking, someone brought over disinfectant and gauze.
With a swift motion, Cayden pulled the dagger out from his wrist.
The flesh was mangled and torn at the wrist. Obviously, it was a shocking sight that could make anyone's heart skip a beat. One could even see the bone exposed within.
He was just a step away from having his hand being rendered useless.
