The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 666

Chapter 666 That Is Her Father

To Avery's surprise, as their car passed through the town where the project was located, they unexpectedly ran into William.

Dressed in casual farming attire, William led a group of people on a rural research trip. With his sleeves rolled up, he walked at the forefront, engaging in friendly conversation with the villagers. Every now and then, he would bend down to help the villagers harvest vegetables, showing no signs of bureaucratic airs.

Avery sat in the car, looking at him through the window. Suddenly, her eyes warmed up, filled with an indescribable feeling.

That was her father.

Only after the car had traveled far away, did she finally withdraw her gaze.

Avery, along with several project managers, arrived at the destination mentioned in Patrick's tender proposal to conduct an on-site survey.

The site mentioned by Patrick was an untouched barren hill in Horbah. The area was extremely vast, roughly a few thousand acres in size. It is about six kilometers away from the famous Cresby River scenic spot.

Avery was dressed in comfortable sportswear, with athletic shoes on her feet, prepared for a hike.

Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, revealing her delicate and fair heart-shaped face. She looked as if she had just graduated, standing out among a crowd of middle-aged managers with their potbellies. She stood out.

Although this hill was referred to as a barren hill, it was not barren at all. Due to its relatively low altitude, the trees growing on it were lush and thriving. Coupled with the undulating landscape and the chirping of birds, there was a wild, unrestrained natural beauty.

Along the journey, Avery held a notebook, attentively listening to Patrick as he spoke about the history and potential value of this barren hill while jotting down various data.

Because the journey was long and far, Avery's fair and delicate face was flushed because of the heat. Beads of sweat glistened on her high-bridged nose. They seemed like pearls on white jade Illuminated by the sunlight, leaving one utterly dazzled.

Patrick had initially thought that Avery, being such a petite and delicate woman, would have an average, if not subpar, physique. However, to his surprise, she was incredibly agile and energetic when climbing the hill.

Several managers were panting and sweating profusely having walked less than half the distance due to their lack of exercise over the years. Surprisingly, Avery, who appeared to be a delicate and weak woman, quickly outpaced these men.

Some middle-aged managers were quite dissatisfied with Avery's decision to check the site out, thinking that the plan proposed by Patrick was utterly foolish.

Smart people would always bid for those golden plots of land with development potential. Who would want to bid for a barren hill?

They even felt that the acting CEO had lost her mind. It was one thing for a subordinate to propose something so hideous, but as the acting CEO, not only did she not reject his proposal but she joined him in this pointless quest. Besides, they were dragged into this mess, suffering along with them. It was simply incomprehensible.

However, despite their deep resentment, no one dared to oppose her decision openly.

After all, the acting CEO held nearly half of the shares in Trident Group. She had absolute authority and the final say. They could only follow her, albeit reluctantly, to conduct on-site inspections.

“Mr. Doyle!” Avery, who was inspecting the barren hill, suddenly stopped in her tracks and waved at Patrick.

Patrick who was a few steps behind, heard Avery calling his name.

He trotted over to Avery, rubbing his hands together as he asked, “Ms. Rumpley, what's the matter?”

Patrick appeared to be around thirty-five years old. He wasn't particularly tall and was slightly overweight. His face was dark and often broke into a simple, honest smile. At first glance, he seemed like a very straightforward man.

Patrick didn't dare to look into Avery's eyes, for the woman's eyes were simply too clear.

Although there were many beautiful women in Trident Group, due to Patrick's shabby attire, his strong accent, and his unimpressive appearance, most women looked at him with disdain and some even ridicule him. Very few people, like Avery, did not despise him at all and treated him genuinely.

“Mr. Doyle, this hill doesn't seem to have any special features. Apart from its low altitude and its proximity to the Cresby River tourist area, there's no water flow on the hill, and the scenery is quite ordinary. Why do you plan to bid for this barren hill?” Avery closed her notebook and asked softly.

Project Manager A immediately sneered, “Mr. Doyle, this place is so far from the main city area and the transportation is inconvenient. Let alone having a subway or light rail, there isn't even a regular bus service. The only option is to drive yourself. Is this the great location you've chosen? It's truly an eye-opener for us!”

Project Manager B wiped the sweat off his cheek, panting heavily. He pointed at the hard rocks scattered all over the ground and said in frustration, “Did you buy this barren hill intending to develop it into a tourist spot? Please don't make me laugh. Let's not even mention how close we are to the Cresby River tourist area. There are no historical relics or outstanding natural landscapes here. Besides, the condition here is so poor, it would be difficult to create artificial landscapes.”

Project Manager C was even more blunt, expressing his dissatisfaction directly. “Mr. Doyle, we've come all this way to this godforsaken place just to see this utterly ordinary barren hill? Are you messing with us? Ms. Rumpley, I suggest we go back. I don't see any point in continuing the survey for this project.”

Everyone was talking at once, their discussions filled with various accusations, causing the normally reticent Patrick's face to turn red.

He glanced at Avery somewhat nervously, tightly clutching his own hair. Even his speech was somewhat stuttering, “Ms... Ms. Rumpley, I...”

Avery gave Patrick an encouraging smile. “It's okay, Mr. Doyle. I believe you have your reasons for choosing this barren hill. Take your time, we're not in a hurry.”

Patrick's face flushed even more as he looked into Avery's trusting eyes and listened to her gentle words.

However, he mustered up the courage to say, “I... I choose to bid for this place... not for developing a tourist area, but to build houses here... This hill has been deserted for a long time. The government once wanted to turn it into a tourist spot, but the area is too small, and the natural conditions limit its potential. It's a waste to change it, but a pity to abandon it too. This wasteland has become a hot potato for the government. I think, since it's far from the main city area and the government is eager to get rid of it, the price must be extremely cheap. Thus, I believe this is our opportunity. Although it's remote, the air here is rich in oxygen and the vegetation is lush. If we buy this wasteland, we can level the hill to build houses...”

Due to the attention focused on him, Patrick found it somewhat difficult to speak smoothly.

Avery patiently listened to his explanation, clapping her hands and said, “Mr. Doyle, you're making a good point. Please continue.”

Upon hearing Avery's encouragement, Patrick disregarded the disdainful looks from the other project managers.

His voice rose slightly. “Moreover, the climate here is mild, with diverse scenery throughout the four seasons, and greenery covers nearly seventy to eighty percent of the area. Although there's no water source on the hill, it's close to the reservoir at the foot of the hill, so the natural resources are abundant. In addition, it's only five kilometers away from a ten-thousand-acre Wellingleche Orchard. After moving in, homeowners can pick fresh fruits and melons all year round. And there's more...”

Patrick was passionately discussing his plan, and by the time he finished, almost half an hour had passed.

Avery patiently listened to him until the end.

Then, she nodded knowingly, “Mr. Doyle, once we return, please prepare a more comprehensive plan. I'm interested in purchasing this barren hill.”
