Seeing Avery with her hands over her face, Cal thought she was secretly crying. Instantly, he glared at Cayden in even greater hostility.
His petite body was ramrod upright, and he unflinchingly met his father's gaze, his eyes wide.
On the heels of that, he sank his two rows of sharp teeth fiercely into the man's muscular and bare arm.
Cayden winced in pain, sucking in a sharp breath.
Despite this brat's petite size, his teeth are exceptionally sharp. Gosh, is he a wolf cub? His bite hurts like h*ll.
Although he was pleased with his son's evident protective instincts toward his mother, gratified that he already knew how to protect Avery at a young age, he could not muster any joy when Cal had mistaken him for the bad guy.
He picked Cal up, locking his tapered eyes onto the little boy. He said coldly, “I was playing a game with your mommy, little one. When did you see me picking on her? Hmm?”
Cal shot out a fair finger and lambasted unceremoniously, “You were crushing Mommy, almost cutting off her air supply. I saw Mommy secretly crying and even emitting cries of pain. You're so tall, yet you pick on a woman. You've really gone overboard.”
At that, Avery covered her face even more tightly.
Good heavens! I'll be too embarrassed to face Cal henceforth!
Cayden lifted the struggling Cal into the air, a wicked smirk playing on his lips, “Even if I were to pick on your mommy, what can you do to me? You're too weak right now, little one. You're no match for me at all.”
Cal lifted his head proudly. His beautiful curled eyelashes fluttering, he snorted disdainfully and declared, “Even though I'm weak now, I'll grow tall and strong one day to be even more powerful than you. I'll protect Mommy in the future, and no one is allowed to pick on her! Oh yes, I'll also marry her and make her my beautiful wife.”
Cayden was so mad at his son's words that he snickered and glared at him fiercely. “Your mommy is my wife, not yours. Are you trying to fight your daddy for his wife?”
“You're a bad guy, not my daddy! My daddy is a great hero like Spider-Man and Superman, while you're just a big bully who picks on Mommy. One day, I'll destroy you in the name of the moon!” Cal's short and chubby arms and legs flailed in the air.
He struggled mightily in Cayden's grasp, trying to break free from the latter's hold, even shooting out his leg to kick the man.
Yet, Cayden managed to maintain a perfect distance, restraining his son effectively while keeping himself out of reach.
He patted Cal on the head, a rare hint of approval in his eyes. “Not bad. Although you're still weak, your courage is commendable.”
Held up by his collar, Cal pitifully flailed in mid-air. Nonetheless, his eyes were firmly fixed on Avery. “Don't be scared, Mommy. With me here, no one can pick on you. When I grow up, Mommy, will you be my wife?”
Avery could not help but laugh at her son's innocent words. At the same time, she was moved by his determination to protect her at all costs.
Without a second thought, she immediately answered, “Sure! Once you grow up, I'll be your wife.”
Cayden's handsome face darkened. Surprisingly, he was even jealousy of his own son.
Tossing Cal aside, he glared at the little boy fiercely. “Don't dream of marrying your mother in this lifetime, little brat. She's mine!”
He felt somewhat disheartened that he had to compete for affection with his son right after returning home.
However, Avery tugged at his arm, griping, “Cayden, can't you be a bit nicer to Cal? He's just over two years old. Take no offense at a child's babble. Besides, it's the first time you two are meeting. It isn't good to make the relationship tense, is it?”
She initially thought that Cayden and Cal could cultivate a close father-son relationship since they had never met before. However, it did not seem too promising, considering their hostility toward each other.
