The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike novel Chapter 260

Chapter 260

Callum turned around and landed his gaze on Bradley. After a while, he chuckled, “It seems that it’s really a misunderstanding.”

His disdainful gaze and casual words immediately made Bradley’s face turn red.

It was apparent that Callum was implying that Bradley was someone whom others would simply look down upon. Yet, Bradley couldn’t refute Callum’s words at that moment.

Callum then turned to Lillian and said, “If there’s any misunderstanding in the future, just let me know. Don’t make others think you don’t have a boyfriend.”

With that, he patted Lillian’s head intimately. Lillian suddenly felt as if she was exposed to the limelight and attracted more envious eyes.

However, she would break up with Callum someday. She was afraid that the envy she received presently would equal the ridicule she would receive in the future.

Lillian’s face turned bitter. She felt that she could only suffer in silence at that moment.

The meeting soon ended in an atmosphere of envy and embarrassment. Once the meeting ended, Jade and Bradley left the conference room quickly. The colleagues who had mocked Lillian earlier also left with a sour expression.

The director turned to Callum in satisfaction and praised Lillian. “Lillian has always performed well in our institute. What happened yesterday was a misunderstanding. I think everybody already understood everything from the meeting just now.”

“But I hope this kind of misunderstanding will never happen again,” said Callum.

“That’s for sure,” the director hurriedly responded. Then, he said to

Lillian, “Lillian, please introduce the project you are working on to Mr. White. You’ll be in charge of the project team in the future.”

Lillian was taken aback and wondered if that was a kind of promotion.

But before she could say anything, the director had left the conference room. All of a sudden, only Callum and Lillian were left in the conference room.

Lillian turned to Callum and bit her lips slightly before saying, “Actually, there’s no need for you to invest in my project.”

“I don’t want to see your efforts go in vain. You have put a lot of hard work into this project, haven’t you?” he said.

Lillian felt her heartstrings gently plucked by his words. If it were not for the truth that she was well aware that their relationship was just a fake, she would have been immersed in such tenderness.

After all, not many women would dislike thoughtful boyfriends.

It was just that she could not let herself fall into the trap because if that happened, their breakup in the future could lead her to her doom.

She hesitated before asking, “Did you do it on purpose today?” She thought if Callum only wanted to invest in the project, he did not need to come to the company personally, ask the director to call for a meeting, and even deliberately say those words during the meeting.

“Yes, I did it on purpose. It will save you unnecessary troubles in the future. If my girlfriend is perceived as someone’s boyfriend, I will feel humiliated,” Callum admitted calmly.

Lillian felt inexplicably disappointed upon hearing that. She mused, “At the end of the day, he was here today for his pride. Since I’m kind of dating him now, it will be a shame for him if others gossip about me and another man. But he never thinks about how much trouble he will bring to me in the future. Maybe I can only change my job when we break up in the future.”

Lillian laughed self-deprecatingly afterwards, thinking that Callum was looking after his own interests after all. Perhaps the more miserable she was, the happier he would be.

“All right, I got it now. I think no one will misunderstand that I am interested in their boyfriends anymore,” Lillian said. Callum slightly knitted his brows. Somehow, the way Lillian spoke at that moment made him feel uncomfortable. It was as if she were exuding a sense of alienation, trying to widen the distance between them.

Callum narrowed his eyes and asked, “Are you unhappy with what I have done?”

Lillian replied with a smile, “No. You are my boyfriend, and that’s the right thing to do. Besides, what you have done today made Jade and Bradley embarrassed in front of everyone. It was, in a way, considered avenging me. It’s pretty good, actually.”

Callum somehow felt Lillian seemed insincere when saying that. He wondered if she knew that what he did that day was to explicitly protect her in front of outsiders so that she wouldn’t be bullied easily when he was not around.

Callum suddenly pulled Lillian into his embrace and leaned his face closer to hers, whispering in her ear, “Tell me, Lillian. When will you fall in love with me?”
