Chapter 325
Rosalie was stunned at first and then she understood what Jonathan meant.
Melanie was one of the Hamilton family and also the CEO of the Hamilton Group at that time. The Hamilton family had two daughters. Yvette had a career in the entertainment circle while Melanie was regarded as the heir of the family business.
Besides, Melanie was Jonathan’s fiancée at that time.
Mike was afraid that though he wouldn’t be punished by the law, the Hamilton family and the Youngblood family would make a lot of trouble for him.
Then Rosalie figured out why Mike would do so many things to frame her.
The evidence in front of her made Rosalie realize that once the appeal was lodged, success was highly likely. The only problem in front of them was that Mike was abroad.
Even if the case was turned over, it would be between the two countries.
very
difficult to bring him to justice. After all, there was no extradition treaty
Jonathan seemed to have known what Rosalie was worried about. He said, “Don’t worry. Though he is abroad, I will make him come back and plead guilty.”
Rosalie knew that Jonathan would manage to do anything he promised.
After confirming that no modification to the materials was necessary, Rosalie signed her name on the documents.
After everything was done, the lawyer who had been Rosalie’s mentor said, “Rosalie, you have suffered a lot. But it won’t be long before you regain your good reputation and become a lawyer again. You’re welcome here.”
Hearing this, Rosalie smiled but didn’t respond to him.
Rosalie just turned to Jonathan and said, “Jon, I’m a little tired.”
Jonathan said, “Then let’s go back.” He took Rosalie’s hand and left, leaving the people in the meeting room staring at one another in a daze.
After Jonathan and Rosalie got into the car, Jonathan looked at Rosalie and said, “If you’re tired, take a nap.”
“No.” She shook her head. “I want to have a drink.”
Jonathan raised his eyebrow slightly, “Have a drink?!”
“Yes. I just suddenly feel like drinking!” said Rosalie.
“Okay, is there a particular place you want to be?” asked Jonathan.
“A bar.” Rosalie said, “I have been to the bar several times when I was in school.”
Jonathan smiled, “Okay. Let’s go to the bar.”
Although it was not a busy afternoon, there were some people in the bar.
Rosalie and Jonathan found an ordinary bar. It was the bar that Rosalie had been to when she was in college. After so many years, the bar was still open, which surprised her.
After all, a lot of stores nearby had changed their shop signs.
Rosalie and Jonathan found a table deep in the bar and ordered some drinks.
Jonathan opened the bottle and poured Rosalie a glass of wine. “Strong liquor is not healthy. This kind of red wine is more suitable for women like you.”
Rosalie raised her glass and took a sip, tasting the mixed sweetness and bitterness. She swallowed it and enjoyed a inellow aftertaste.
Rosalie exclaimed in her mind that it was really something great!
Rosalie drank it bite by bite, allowing the feeling of dizziness to overwhelm her.
Jonathan stayed and drank with her, refreshing her wine from time to time.
Rosalie shook the glass in her hand and murmured, “Jon, sometimes I really think God is ridiculous.”
Jonathan said, “What do you mean?”
Rosalie said, “My case. The evidence was all pointed at me back then and I couldn’t defend myself. During the three years in prison, I couldn’t help wondering every day what the truth was and who framed me. How much effort it must have been taken to make all the evidence against me?”
Rosalie said with a self-mocking smile, “I even thought everyone I knew. I analyzed everything about them and wondered who the person could be. Who would have so much hatred of me?”
To Jonathan, Rosalie’s words were like a sledgehammer, hitting his heart hard and causing him sharp pain.
Rosalie stuck her chin out slightly at smiled at Jonathan, “Jon, you know what? I never thought that the person who did those things to me did not hate me or Melanie. He was just afraid of being sent to prison which might not happen so he destroyed my life!”
The three years in prison were a nightmare to Rosalie, which gave her a lot of injuries. She lost her career and a promising future and she might never have her own kids.
But all the pain was just because Mike was afraid of being implicated. So, he made Rosalie his scapegoat!
It took Rosalie nearly four years to find out this simple but ridiculous truth!
Jonathan felt even more pain. It was the first time in his life that he had regretted. He regretted that he had turned a blind eye to her, that though he was capable of proving her innocence, he saw her go to jail and did nothing.
Jonathan didn’t know that one day he would fall in love with Rosalie and the pain she had suffered eventually became his
too.
Jonathan hoped that all her pain would suddenly be inflicted on him, not her.
