Chapter 569
Sealing the manor would mean that everything that happened within its walls would be permanently sealed in his memory, never to be thought of again.
Jonathan walked toward the manor entrance.
From that moment on, he had decided not to return there! All his hopes and despair had been experienced within those walls, and that place would forever remain a forbidden territory for him.
Just like the woman he had once called “Rosie,” she too had eventually become a forbidden subject.
On the other hand, Rosalie was somewhat surprised by Fiona’s arrival at the law firm.
However, it turned out that Fiona had come to Lawrence for legal advice, hoping he could assist her with a defamation case. She wanted to file a lawsuit against some online users who had maliciously attacked her.
Lawrence, naturally, couldn’t turn down a potential client, especially when Fiona offered a substantial fee.
After discussing the case details, Fiona smiled and added, “Another reason I came here is because my cousin, Rosalie, works here. So, I specifically chose your firm to handle the case, which not only gives me peace of mind but also brings some business your way.”
When Lawrence heard that, he exchanged a few polite words with Fiona.
As Fiona prepared to leave, Lawrence suggested, “Rosalie, why don’t you join Fiona on her way out?”
Rosalie acknowledged and walked out of the law firm alongside Fiona.
“Rosalie, are you all right? I heard from Calvin that you’ve returned safely, and I’m really happy for you,” Fiona said.
Rosalie regarded Fiona with a cold gaze. She didn’t quite trust what Fiona was saying and suspected that Fiona would have preferred it if she hadn’t returned. “Fiona, I must admit that I’m surprised you came to our law firm to entrust us with a case,” she replied.
“What’s so surprising about that? We’re a family, after all, so when I have business matters to handle, it’s natural to involve our own family,” Fiona replied with the mannerisms of a caring sister.
Sometimes, Rosalie couldn’t help but admire Fiona. Fiona could still act like nothing had ever come between them despite their past conflicts, showing a deep sisterly bond.
“Our own family?” Rosalie said in a calm tone, her gaze fixed intently on Fiona.
“O-Of course…” Fiona began to feel uneasy under Rosalie’s scrutiny, As the elevator arrived, she quickly added, “Well, I should be going. Let’s stay in touch for next time.”
With that, as the elevator doors opened, Fiona rushed inside.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Rosalie couldn’t help but think, “Our own family… I’m afraid Fiona never truly considered me a part of her family, and now there may not be any family left for me.”
Fiona left the law firm’s office building and was on her way to the parking lot when a figure suddenly hugged her tightly from behind. “You seem to be doing well these days. It’s a shame we divorced back then!”
Fiona instantly recognized the voice as her ex-husband, Joseph Hill.
His name alone sounded ordinary, not nearly as appealing as Calvin’s. Moreover, Joseph’s appearance and family background didn’t measure up to Calvin’s.
Fiona broke free from Joseph’s embrace and turned to face him, a hint of disgust flashing in her eyes. “I already gave you money the last time you asked for it. What more do you. want?”
“It’s not that simple!” Joseph leered at Fiona. “Speaking of which, you look better now than you did before. It seems Calvin is willing to spend money on you.”
“What do you really want?” Fiona said with a deep sense of disgust. Although they were divorced, Joseph had come to her some time ago, demanding money and even threatening to post her old photos on the Internet if she didn’t comply. He wanted everyone to see what kind of person she used to be.
Those photos portrayed her in an unflattering light, especially some intimate shots taken with Joseph in the past.
If those photos were ever posted online, not to mention the potential consequences if Calvin were to see them, they would undoubtedly become a stain on her reputation if she ever hoped to become a celebrity.
So, she had no choice but to pay a sum of money to buy the photos from him.
She had hoped that would be the end of it, but Joseph kept coming back, demanding more money. Each time, however, he would only give her some of the photos, refusing to give her all of them at once.
“That depends on how much you can pay,” Joseph replied in a villainous tone.
Fiona hesitated for a moment, then said, “I’ll give you 10 million dollars all at once, and you’ll give me all the photos. If you withhold anything, we’ll escalate things, and I’ll tell Calvin. Even if Calvin sees those intimate photos, it’s better than being blackmailed by you for the rest of my life!”
Joseph subconsciously frowned as he heard that. If things went wrong, he wouldn’t benefit either way.
However, 10 million dollars was a considerable amount, far more than he had ever dared to imagine.
“All right, I’ll give you all of them at once,” Joseph agreed.
“You go back and wait. Within a week, I’ll have the money ready and contact you,” Fiona said.
