Chapter 679
It felt like her armor had been shattered. Even if it was full of cracks, she refused to be belittled by this man.
“What’s wrong, Amelia?” Warren’s voice sounded overhead.
“I…” She wanted to tell him she was fine, but she almost bit her tongue.
She was trembling slightly, and beads of sweat on her brow slid down her cheek. Her face was so pale that even her lips were gray.
“I’m taking you to the hospital,” Warren announced. It was not the first time he had seen her in such pain.
He grabbed her arm as he spoke, but not as hard as before. He was even a little cautious, as if he was afraid that it would hurt her.
“No, I don’t need to go to the hospital,” Amelia said firmly.
“Why won’t you go to the hospital in this state?” Warren demanded angrily.
“When have you become so sympathetic, Mr. York?” Amelia said after a while, taking a great deal of effort to do so. “Would it be so bad if I died in pain? Isn’t that what you want? Aren’t you always saying that I have to repay my father’s debt?”
He scowled, hard. “Do you want to die, Amelia?”
She did not want to die. On the contrary, she wanted to live. However, it was too difficult to do so. Amelia’s eyes flashed with gloom.
However, Warren felt his heart pricked by her dejection.
Shaking his head fiercely, he got rid of the pain in his heart and dragged her along as he opened the door.
As soon he opened it, they found Lucas standing on the other side with one of his hands raised as if he was about to ring the doorbell.
Warren stared at Lucas, narrowing his eyes. This man, he remembered, had been downstairs that day, exchanging a look with Amelia, who smiled at him for quite some time.
“You two…” Lucas stared at the couple before him blankly, unable to grasp the situation for a moment.
Warren sneered. “Why wouldn’t you want me to take you to the hospital? Are you waiting at home for your lover? Here you are, saying that you want to stay with your son for another three months, but on the other

hand, couldn’t wait for your lover to come. How shameless of you, Amelia!”
Amelia took a deep breath. “Whether or not I’m shameless is none of your business, Warren.”
Warren raised his eyebrows. “Does this man know that you’ve been in prison?” he said with a faint smile. “Does he know how you told me that you loved me and then climbed into my bed? Does he know-”
“Mr. York! Mr. York, I presume?” Lucas interrupted Warren. “I-I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with Amelia, but I think a man shouldn’t say such things to a woman regardless!”
Warren glared at Lucas, who was trying hard to meet the former’s gaze. “Amelia is a good woman. You shouldn’t accuse her of such things!”
The way he said her name Amelia sounded particularly piercing to Warren’s ears.
Amelia looked at Lucas gratefully before turning to Warren. “My friend is here, Mr. York. Even if I need a trip to the hospital, it will be my friend who will take me. Thank you for offering.”
Lucas quickly caught on. “Ah… I’ll take you to the hospital!” Then, he took Amelia’s other arm and gazed at Warren. “Let go of Amelia, Mr. York, so I can take her to the hospital.”
Warren stared at Lucas. His grip around Amelia’s arm was stiffer than
ever.
Somehow, he had a feeling that his presence at that moment was excessive.
Thus, he slowly slackened his grip. “I’m going to lock the door and go to the hospital,” Amelia told Warren. “Are you planning on remaining here?”
Warren then walked out the door with a scowl. Amelia took the key and locked it.
Lucas held Amelia while Warren stared after them, clenching his teeth so hard that they began to hurt again.
“What’s so good about that man?” he thought vehemently. “What does Amelia see in him? What’s more, what man would dare want a woman that I, Warren York, had cast aside?”
Lucas got in the car with Amelia. “It’s all right,” Amelia said suddenly halfway along the journey. “You don’t have to take me to the hospital.”
“But you’re not looking well. You’d better go get yourself checked up,”

Lucas said.
“No, really.” She shook her head. “About earlier… Thank you.”
“The man is… Aiden’s father, I presume,” Lucas said. He noticed their resemblance.
“Yes. In three months, I will give him full custody of Aiden and go back to our village with my mother. I count myself lucky to have met you, Rosalie, and Lillian in this city. Even after I go back home, I will remember you.” Amelia smiled, but her smile looked weak.
“Are you going back home?” Lucas was surprised.
