Chapter 847
“Okay,” the bodyguard answered.
Then, without having to wait for a long time, Rosalie finally knew about Zachary’s mother, Olivia’s condition.
Olivia had kidney disease. Even though it was not at the stage where she had uremia and needed dialysis, it was also somewhat serious. Previously, she used to undergo conservative treatment, with medical expenses of over 400 dollars per month. However, after being hospitalized a while ago, according to the treatment plan given by the hospital, she would need around 20,000 dollars.
However, for the Xanthos family, 20,000 dollars had become a huge sum of money that they did not have.
For the time being, Olivia owed the hospital 4,000 dollars for her healthcare.
Looking at the investigation report in her hand, Rosalie felt it was slightly ridiculous. “20,000 dollars. Back then, any of Olivia’s bags was worth more than 20,000 dollars,” she mused to herself.
The next day, Rosalie arrived at the hospital where Olivia was hospitalized. She looked at Olivia, who was lying on the bed with a sallow and weak expression on the latter’s face.
Olivia, who used to be arrogant and always liked to wear expensive jewelry, always felt that she was superior and looked down on Rosalie who was born into an ordinary family. For now, Olivia was just a weak old woman lying on the hospital bed.
Rosalie still remembered that when she dated Zachary, she had tried her best to please Olivia, but it resulted in something else entirely. Back then, Olivia once said, “What did you buy? If you were to give this to me to use, are you trying to make me feel embarrassed? I have never used such cheap things! Moreover, I really don’t know how Zachary can fall in love with you.”
However, now, Olivia was no longer the wife of a rich man and had become an ordinary person like those she had looked down upon before. Moreover, she even became the lowest-level person in the ranks of
society who struggled hard in order to live.
The ward was slightly noisy. It was a four-bed ward, and there were
patients’ families at the bedside of the other three beds, except for Olivia’s

side where it was quiet and empty.
Rosalie walked to Olivia’s bedside and looked down at the latter.
Olivia, who initially had closed her eyes, slowly opened her turbid eyes as if she sensed something. After seeing that it was Rosalie, her eyes opened wider.
“You-”
“Long time no see. I heard that you are sick,” Rosalie said indifferently.
“Yes, it’s been… a long time.” Olivia sat up with difficulty and looked at Rosalie carefully. Then, Olivia smiled bitterly. “It’s retribution… Everything is retribution. If the Xanthos family didn’t treat you like that back then, maybe we wouldn’t end up like this now.”
Rosalie’s expression was still indifferent and she merely said, “Zachary saved me once a few days ago. I can pay for your medical expenses.” Olivia was stunned. Seeing that Rosalie was about to leave, she immediately said, “No, Ms. Leighton. No, it’s not right. It’s Mrs. Youngblood. I-I don’t want you to pay for my medical expenses!” Rosalie was stunned. “Don’t you want me to do it?”
“I-I just want you to spare the Xanthos family.” Then, Olivia begged, “It doesn’t matter anymore how many years I can live because I’m already old. But… Zachary and Zendaya are still young. Now the Xanthos family has ended up like this, so please spare them. B-Back then, it was the fault of our Xanthos family. We already have our karma. You and Zachary… You two were lovers before. You even said that Zachary… saved you. Just be merciful and spare them.”
When Olivia said these words, there was a trace of fear on her face. Rosalie looked at Olivia, who was begging hard at the moment, before finally leaving the ward without saying anything.
After leaving the ward, Rosalie went directly to the cashier counter and paid for Olivia’s treatment. She had no sympathy for Olivia, but she did not want to owe Zachary anything. Thus, she only wanted to pretend that this was her way of paying back for his help previously.
Then, Rosalie walked forward, and her bodyguard followed her diligently.
As soon as Rosalie walked to the entrance of the hospital, a shout came from behind. “Rosalie, Rosalie!”
Rosalie frowned slightly and turned to look behind her. Zachary was

rushing over toward her from behind.
Nevertheless, before Zachary could reach Rosalie, he was stopped by the bodyguard.
“I-I have something to tell you, Rosalie!” Zachary said.
“All right. Tell me,” Rosalie responded. She gave a look at the bodyguard and only then did the bodyguard withdraw the hand that was blocking Zachary.
“Did you just pay off my mother’s medical expenses and transfer 20,000 dollars into it?” Zachary asked.
“Yes,” Rosalie admitted it.
“W-Why? Aren’t you supposed to hate me and the Xanthos family?”
“I hated you back then, but the feeling has faded now. I don’t feel anything anymore,” Rosalie replied indifferently. Then, she added, “I paid your mother’s medical expenses because I want to return the favor to you. We won’t owe each other in the future.”
There was an inexplicable emotion appearing all of a sudden in Zachary’s heart. Moreover, Zachary felt embarrassed, bitter, and regretful. It was as if there was already a huge distance between her and him.
It seemed to be that when a person finally stood high enough, what he once valued was no longer important.
