"Look, if he can't handle the game, he should just bow out," she said with a wicked grin that sent a shiver down Aurelia's spine.
"Jelena, you're not still plotting against Fredric, are you?" Aurelia asked with a note of worry in her voice.
Jelena tapped her Aurelia's head lightly and replied,"Silly girl, drop the revenge talk. Chloe and I were close, but that's ancient history. I wouldn't stir up a hornet's nest over a friend, except for my sister with bonds," she said with a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
Aurelia hoped that was true. She didn't want to see her cousin ruin her happiness for the sake of vengeance.
Let bygones be bygones. The living must live on.
"You know, you're not getting any younger. It's high time you found a decent guy to settle down with and make your mom rest easy at night," Aurelia teased.
"Why rush to tie the knot?" Jelena chuckled seductively. "I'm young, rich, and good-looking. I've got a killer figure. Why would I chain myself to one man? A woman should never hang her heart on a single branch."
Aurelia sighed inwardly. Jelena was becoming more and more of an enigma to her.
When she returned to Stirling Manor, she found Nina and Mira had arrived.
Ever since Sheryl vanished from Stirling Manor, probably to dodge the whole messy divorce affair, Jessica worried about her influence on the kids, so she brought them over.
Nina was devastated, crying her eyes out. She was convinced their father would soon bring home a wicked stepmother.
"Stepmothers are always cruel," she sobbed, "they'll make our lives miserable."
Mira, with her chubby little hands, patted her sister's back. "Don't cry, Nina. Mama will come back soon."
"Our home is gone. Mama and Papa are divorced. Now he'll find a stepmom who'll yell and hit us," Nina wailed like a little raincloud.
