Monday, Evelyn returned.
Although she was not fully recovered, she had no plans of extending her sick leave.
Aurelia had thought that Evelyn had severely burnt her entire leg, but surprisingly, it was only her ankle. She must have moved quick that day to avoid worse.
Emma, like a puppy eager to please its owner, scurried to her side. “Evelyn, you’re finally back. While you were away, some people got too big for their boots.”
It was clear who Emma was referring to. But Aurelia chose to ignore her.
Evelyn smiled, “I was worried about you all, that’s why I came back earlier. You trust me enough to follow me, I can’t let you down.”
“Did you manage to convince Mr. Leopold to transfer our performance evaluations to you?” This was what Emma cared about the most.
After Emma had sent a WhatsApp message, Evelyn had called Leopold, but he had declined.
“According to company policy, since I just started, I cannot participate in this year’s performance evaluation. Mr. Leopold can’t break the rules either. However, he did mention that if a department manager can’t. conduct evaluations fairly, he will take it seriously. Remember when Kelly was demoted?”
Evelyn added those last words herself.
Feeling reassured, Emma shot Aurelia a disdainful look, “A director can still be a manager after demotion, but a manager might be out on the street.”
Darcy scoffed, “Our Manager Aurelia is a hot commodity, companies are offering her a high salary to switch. Kelly is not in demand. Do you think the big boss would sacrifice Manager Aurelia for someone as insignificant as you?”
His words hit Emma hard. She turned to Evelyn for support.
Evelyn patted her shoulder, “Don’t worry, as long as you’re dedicated to the team, I won’t let you suffer any injustice.”
Evelyn’s words were reassuring, and Emma felt much better. After all, Evelyn was Mr. Leopold’s woman. How could she not outmaneuver Aurelia?
Aurelia gave a smirk. When she had demoted Emma, Evelyn hadn’t pleaded with the big boss.
To Evelyn, Emma was just a pawn. Her current sweet words were just a way to placate Emma.
An email from the executive office popped up. It was time for the regular meeting. She took a sip of water, stood up and headed to the meeting room upstairs. She had an important proposal today.
When she suggested launching the new designs separately, Evelyn stood up in opposition. This would compromise the marketing advantage she had fought for.
“If it’s a fair competition, we should launch together.”
“Ms. Evelyn, while we are indeed competitors, our real adversaries are the external brands. Achieving a win–win situation is what we should strive for. Wasting company resources on internal competition only harms the company’s interests,” Aurelia stated firmly.
Evelyn gestured to Mr. Louis, who cleared his throat, “Manager Aurelia, are you suggesting this because the headquarters and regional offices favor the ‘Eternal Love‘ series and are allocating more resources to it? If
you know you’re inferior, you might as well admit defeat and cancel the ‘Destiny‘ launch.”
Aurelia responded with a smirk, “The design for ‘Destiny‘ has been completed, and advertisements are underway. All the necessary resources and funds have been invested. Is Mr. Louis going to cover the losses.
