Chapter 228 

With a passionate kiss, he finally let her go. 

He pressed the call button, and Evelyn’s terrified voice came through the speaker, “Leo, help me! I’m on the highway and my brakes have failed.” 

A shock ran through Leopold. “Have you contacted the police?” 

“No, not yet.” 

“Tell me where you are and then call them.” 

“I’m so scared, Leo.” 

“Don’t panic. I’m sending help.” 

Aurelia took a few deep breaths before she could regain her composure. She didn’t dare to speak, fearing Evelyn would hear her. 

Leopold dialed Kevin, instructing him to send help to the north loop highway and assist the police in rescuing Evelyn. After hanging up, Aurelia cautiously asked, “What’s wrong with Evelyn?” 

A cold gleam flashed in Leopold’s eyes. 

She simply couldn’t hold it in any longer, he thought. 

“Stay out of it and stay home. I have to leave.” With that, he left. 

Aurelia felt as though a storm had hit her heart. She had heard a bit of the conversation – Evelyn’s brakes were failing. No wonder the big boss was so on edge. Her car was a luxury vehicle. How could the brakes 

fail for no reason? 

Could it be… A chill ran up her spine, and she couldn’t help but shudder, too afraid to pursue that line of thought. 

Leopold’s bodyguards, all trained in special forces, managed to stop Evelyn’s car with the assistance of the police. 

The car crashed into a sandy construction site, the best option to minimize injuries. Evelyn had injured her arm, but it was just a surface wound. Her bones were intact. 

Upon inspection, the police discovered that the brakes had been cut. It was an attempted murder. 

They checked the surveillance footage from the parking garage and quickly identified a suspect. 

He was the brother of the hotel server who had died in the anniversary accident. He believed Evelyn was responsible for his sister’s death and wanted revenge. 

Soon, the news spread throughout the company. 

During lunch, Aurelia and her team found a secluded corner to eat. 

Darcy whispered, “I feel like there’s more to this. The competition for the CEO’s wife is fierce. It’s not a position you can just waltz into.” 

Aurelia had some soup. Evelyn and Elowen were both difficult characters. One was a master of manipulation, and the other was ruthless. It was anyone’s game at this point. 

“This doesn’t involve us. Let’s just sit back, enjoy the show, and eat our popcorn.” 

Jenny gave her a knowing look, “Boss, aren’t you on team Elowen?” 

Aurelia made a face, “In times of intense strife, self–preservation is important. We can’t afford to be cannon 

fodder.” 

Jenny gave her a thumbs up, “Makes sense.” 

At the Stirling mansion. Elara and Elowen arrived.
