Chapter 267
Emma was sleepy across her desk, not in the mood for any conversation.
Yesterday, she had a spat with Ritchle, who promised he would figure out a way to keep their apartment. She forgave him, considering she had lied as well.
At noon, Evelyn went out for lunch.
Cindy and Darcy were eating their sandwiches while chit–chatting.
“I’ve noticed that the Marketing Department is as unpredictable as our Design Department these days,” Cindy said.
“Only a naive person would think Mr. Harry would be ousted by Mr. Louis,” Darcy scoffed,” “Mr. Harry was sent to the company out of the blue, had few connections in the company, and had been suppressed by Mr. Louis because of his different ideas from his. But, Mr. Leopold needs someone like him. Mr. Louls is Mr. Chad’s subordinate, not Mr. Leopold’s. Mr. Leopold wants Mr. Harry to keep Mr. Louis in check, he would definitely support Mr. Harry behind the scenes. Manager Simms just had the misfortune of being caught in the crossfire.”
Cindy said, “So, what’s the situation in our Design Department?”
Darcy grinned, “That’s a bit complicated. After all, Evelyn and our manager are going to be sisters–in–law.” Cindy lowered her voice, “Even though Evelyn is going to be Aurelia’s sister–in–law, she doesn’t seem to have much power. Everything is handled strictly by the book.”
“Astral Enterprises is a listed company, a Fortune 500. Mr. Leopold has to control the overall situation. Besides, the Stirling family has more than just Astral Enterprises, they have many other businesses that need his attention. If she bothers him with petty department*l stuff, she is just asking for trouble.”
Darcy continued in a low voice, “Do you really think
Velyn will have any say with Mr. Leopold? I suspect she’s just a yes–woman. To him, women are easily replaceable. Today he can discard Elowen, tomorrow Evelyn. Even after marriage, he won’t be devoted to just one woman. Remember Mr. Chad? Is there a shortage of women to keep him company?”
Cindy nodded, but then she asked, “So, you’re saying Mr. Leopold doesn’t mind Aurelia constantly visiting his office?”
“That depends on how one talks. If you can hit the nail on the head every time, saying what Mr. Leopold wants to hear, he won’t find you annoying even if you visit him every day.”
Darcy chuckled. Based on his observations, there seemed to be a subtle relationship between Mr. Leopold and Aurelia. But such things were better left unsaid.
As they talked, Aurelia returned from lunch.
“Darcy, I’ve just spoken with the new manager of the Advertising Department. This afternoon, all the ad spots will be replaced with Destiny’s. Tomorrow is the jewelry show rehearsal, and you and Jenny need to go to Times Square to see if there are any adjustments needed.”
“Sure thing.” Darcy responded with an OK sign.
Cindy whispered, “Manager Aurelia, your baby is due in a couple of months, right? What will happen to your team while you’re on maternity leave?”
Aurelia paused, then smiled, “I’ve thought about it. During my leave, Darcy will manage. I won’t be off for long, and I’ll start working from home in that time.”
