Aurelia didn’t quite know how to explain it, instead choosing to say, “Adults have their reasons, sweetheart. It’s not for children to worry about.” 

William hung his head low. Daddy had said he’d done something wrong and had upset Mommy over the phone. It seemed Mommy was still mad. 

“Mommy, Daddy didn’t mean to do anything wrong. Can you stop being mad at him, please?” 

Aurelia replied softly, “I’m not mad at Daddy, and we’re okay.” 

William hurriedly asked, “Can I see Daddy tomorrow then?” 

Aurelia sighed, “If Daddy’s free, I’ll take 

you there.” 

That evening, a party was in full swing at the Muse Club. This was the first time Aurelia had attended a Muse Club party since she’d come back. 

As she and Leopold entered, all eyes shifted towards them. 

Aurelia spotted a familiar face. It was Evelyn. 

She was back in town. 

Evelyn’s gaze was fixed on them, filled with resentment. For the past three years, she’d been plotting her comeback, intending to reclaim her rightful place and make life difficult for Aurelia. 

Leopold didn’t even spare her a glance, completely ignoring her existence and leading Aurelia to a quiet corner. 

Evelyn’s heart felt like it was being crushed. How she wished that Aurelia was truly gone, just like Megan. But to her surprise, Aurelia had returned. It was a cruel joke of fate. 

Elowen approached her, saying, “Three years ago, we battled fiercely, both of us wounded. But in the end, Aurelia got the spoils. Frustrating, isn’t it?” 

Evelyn gave a bitter hum, “And what about you? Are you satisfied?”

Elowen smirked, “Aurelia is cunning. She played us both.” 

A cold light flashed in Evelyn’s eyes, “Her time of triumph won’t last long.” 

Meanwhile, Fredric arrived with Jelena and joined Leopold and Aurelia. 

Jelena said, “Mr. Leopold, you and Aurelia have been through so much to get to where you are. You need to cherish each other.” 

Leopold wrapped an arm around Aurelia’s shoulders, “No one could take her away from

Aurelia gave a faint smile and said, “I just want a peaceful life, without any annoying people.” 

Leopold affectionately stroked her hair, “All you need to worry about now is preparing for the wedding.” 

Fredric cast a glance at the couple, sighing quietly. He hadn’t seen Arnold since the Christmas feast. Probably he was nursing his wounds somewhere in solitude. 

When Aurelia excused herself to the restroom, she ran into Evelyn in the hallway. 

“You must be on cloud nine now, a nobody who’s landed the coveted position of Mrs. Stirling.” 

Aurelia shrugged and her tone was light, “There’s nothing to feel smug about. I’m just going with the flow.” 

Evelyn believed that they would split in due time. 

“Even if you marry Leopold, it doesn’t mean he’ll love you. The only woman he truly loved was Megan. You’re just a replacement.” 

The words stung Aurelia. She knew she could never replace Megan, which was one of the reasons she’d hesitated to accept Leopold fully. But she kept her composure, her expression calm. 

“How can I be a replacement for your sister? We’re nothing alike.” She replied. 

Evelyn’s eyes were filled with mockery, “You’re nothing compared to Megan. She was the recognized beauty of the world, not just beautiful but also accomplished. You’re not even one–tenth of what she was.” 

Aurelia curled her lips into a half–smile, “I’ve never been one to compete or fight for anything. What will be, will be. I don’t need to compare myself to anyone.” 

With that, she walked into the restroom, leaving Evelyn behind.
