Chapter 380
Aurelia paused, and then smiled, gently ruffling Kane’s hair. “We’re all family here, who would bully me? Go on, go play with Nina and Mira.”
She let Kane down, and as Kane turned to leave, he looked back at Melissa, glaring at Melissa before leaving the room.
That look was loaded with warning.
Melissa couldn’t help but roll her eyes. What a tough little cookie for only being three years old. If he was this audacious now, who knows what he’d be like when he was older? Possibly even more ruthless than his younger sibling.
Only when Kane was well out of sight did Melissa speak again. “Aurelia, I’ve noticed you seem to be lacking in your parenting skills. Ever since you returned, Kane hasn’t been as well–behaved as he used to be.”
Aurelia knew exactly what Melissa was trying to do, nitpicking to create conflict.
“Melissa, you don’t know. Kane might be young, but he has his own mind and won’t be swayed by anyone.”
Melissa dropped a sugar cube into her cup, stirring her coffee as she spoke. “You’re from a small town, and your parents are just common folks, so you’ve never had any proper upbringing, and you’ve never been exposed to the wide world. The Stirling family doesn’t expect you to transform Kane into an aristocratic gentleman. However, you need to improve your own manners and avoid any disgraceful actions that could embarrass Leopold and the Stirling family…”
Just as she was about to continue, Beverley cut her off with a cough. She couldn’t bear to listen any longer. It was clear that Melissa saw Aurelia as an easy target.
“Melissa, as long as Leopold thinks Aurelia is perfect, she is the most perfect woman in the world. Nothing else matters. You should focus more on your own affairs.”
Melissa gave Beverley a cold look, saying, “Adults are talking here, Beverley, mind your manners. You’re acting just as brash as Kane.”
Beverley only smirked in response. “I am an adult, not a child.”
Aurelia lightly patted Beverley’s hand in appreciation.
“Couples getting along is like wearing a pair of shoes; the most important thing is that they fit well and are comfortable. Some shoes may look beautiful and fashionable, but if they don’t fit well, it would be pointless. My job is to make sure Leopold finds me comfortable and reliable, someone he can walk thousands of miles with. That’s all that matters.”
Melissa snorted dismissively, “How comfortable can a pair of worn–out shoes be?”

Her words were a double–edged sword, mocking Aurelia’s humble origins and implying that she wasn’t faithful, that she had been worn by others.
Aurelia remained calm. She knew that Leopold was her first man and the only man in her life, even though he didn’t know it.
