Chapter 382
Melissa clenched her teeth and said, “You’re the head in Elysium, the heir of the Stirling family. Your wife should be a wealthy heiress. not a nobody like a New York hot dog vendor.”
Leopold cracked a sardonic smile, “Aurelia is far better than you. As the daughter of the Stirling family, you’re so desperate for a man that you’ve not only lost your dignity but also the reputation of the Stirling family. If you’re capable, let Elvis come begging to you. If not, stop taking out your frustrations on others.”
Leaving these cold words, he tumed and walked away.
When he reached the main hall, Aurelia approached, “Is Melissa okay?”
“Don’t worry about her. Let her cool down,” Leopold said, draping his arm over her shoulder, “Don’t take her words to heart.”
Aurelia gave a smile and said, “I may not have many virtues, but I can tolerate much.”
She had once thought of introducing Jelena to Elvis. Good thing she didn’t, or Melissa would’ve definitely lashed out at her.
Beverley came running over and asked, “Leopold, there’s a party at the BlueBird Club the day after tomorrow. Can Aurelia and I go?”
Leopold hesitated for a moment and said, “You have to take good care of her”
Beverley gave an OK sign with a laugh, “Don’t worry, with me there, no one will dare to bully her.”
She winked mischievously at Aurelia, who understood the hidden message and smiled in return.
Later, Leopold took Aurelia to the garden.
Winter was the season when winter–sweet was in full bloom, and its fragrance filled the air, refreshing and invigorating.
Aurelia plucked a blossom and toyed with it, “I never expected Melissa to be smitten with Mr. Cooper from Ethereal Gems. He’s quite charming, handsome, and extraordinary. I even thought of introducing Jelena to him.”
Leopold frowned slightly. He couldn’t see what was so impressive about Elvis. Melissa was just stubborn, only leaming her lesson after hitting a brick wall.
“Don’t pay any mind to her nonsense.”
She brought the flower to her nose and sniffed, “It doesn’t matter. Marrying you does indeed elevate my status. But I didn’t want to climb the social ladder, and you were never my ideal man.”
She was well aware that from the very beginning, Leopold had never thought much of her. His cold disdain, ruthless mockery, and dismissive attitude were all too clear in her mind.
Her dignity and confidence were repeatedly trampled on by him, crushed to the point where nothing was left.
Without Amold as a rival, Leopold would never have found her attractive. He would have given her a divorce paper without a second thought, sending her away without any remorse.
Leopold hadn’t realized this. In his view, her ideal man was definitely Amold, and he, Leopold, seemed rather dispensable. Given the slightest chance, she would leave him without hesitation.
